I don't reformat, I just do all those tweaks, clean up, etc. Anyway the 1210 is fast during use and shutdown, but the only time its slow, is startup.

It takes about 3 minutes to load eveything and I already did all those tweaks and stuff. So I am beginning to suspect its Macfee slowing down the startup process b/c compared to my desktop's startup running Nod32, the startup process is fast.

The only reason its on my lappy is because it came with the deal for a 2 yr service. So what do think?

Go into msconfig... Go to Start > Run > "msconfig" > Startup > then uncheck some boxes of programs you do not want windows to load when starting up the OS. Also, after removing programs defrag and to a disk clean up. Start > Programs > Acessories > system tools. I have never been a Macfee or Norton fan. You should uninstall it and load Avast on. It's a great free antivirus program. For me it catches more things than norton does, and does not hog your system resources. After you try all of this, and you are still having problems, you might want to try a reformat. Southern Girl has a great guide in the Dell forum that should help you out.

Yup, it's McAfee that's slowing down your system and a whole bunch of others during start up. It loads about 7-9 processes, I've disabled the spamkiller as it's redundant. You might try PCcillin from TrendMicro as well for a total security packagage.

When I had macfee installed on my laptop it took about 5 min to startup. I just disabled it.

    qttask - quicktas, net waiting
DIGITALLINE DIRECT - dial up software.
cavrid - looks to be part of your antivirus (eTrust)
msascui - part of windows defender
    CTDetect/CTCMSGO - Audigy SB software
digital - probably your digital line software (dial up software that come with the modem driver).
