How do I get it to fit in the express slot? Do I jam it in or does the cover piece come off first? I'm really confused and feel a little dumb at the moment:laugh:

Are you sure the battery is in the right way?

And yea you just jam it in. I don't think there was ever a cover piece on it, although I may be mistaken.

If there's an empty space, then yes just jam it in, but there's a solid black piece of plastic in the slot, that's the dummy card, and you need to remove it by pushing it in and then it should pop out when you release it.

As for the remote not working, yes, i would check the battery and then try pointing it at the headphone jacks in the front where the infrared receiver is.

Thanks for the help guys. Yeah, there was a dummy card in there. Still not working but I'll mess with it some more...I have it in + side up just like it says.

you have to point it towards the headphone/microphone jacks

Did you pop the battery in? Or is the battery the right side up?

I have the + side up. It "pops" into place if you put it in the other way...if that's what you mean?

I'm going to call dell this week, I really think I got a dud.

are you pointing it the right way? the long black side should be pointed at the IR receiver on the front. also, you need some media software (itunes, wmp, media direct, wmc, etc.) open before you can use it. and yes, it does stick out like 2mm from your laptop when you stick it in the express slot.

Might simply be a dead battery.

My first M1530 came with two remotes! Haha!
