    As most of you have heard dell xps1530 has a configuration which they giving a 600 dollar discount for. I am very interested in purchasing the XPS but I want to know two things.
    Disclaimer: I am in no way computer savvy.

    1st question:

    The XPS they are offering has 3G Ram and I read somewhere that, that is not good. They said something about it being 2g & 1g which doesn’t take full advantage of the duo2core since it's only running 1 channel instead of two.

    Now I’m not sure what that means. Can anyone help me out??

    Should I get a 2g ram? Can I order the system and then call them and have it downgraded? (even though it doesn’t allow you to downgrade on the site)?

    Second question:
    (Kinda dumb but w/e)

    If you had to pick between a 1440x900 res or a 1680x1050 res screen, which one would you pick? (it's a 50 dollar diff.)

    If you have any extra cupons to lower down the price I would appreciate the link! THANK YOU!

    More ram=better performance, why would you downgrade it? They won't give you a discount...if they do, 2gb ram should be sufficient for whatever you are doing. You won't see much performance difference between 2gb and 3gb ram.

    Ummm i'd pick the larger screen...just because its personal preference :) The larger screen do eat up battery a lot faster tho, if you need long battery life go with the 1440x900.

    WXGA?? Does the XPS bring that option in their screen... when I go to costumize it only gives me options for resolution... that's it.

    Don't worry that the RAM won't be running in dual channel. 3Gb in single channel will be faster than 2Gb in dual channel. Dual channel doesn't give a significant increase in performance.

    As for the second question, if you plan on gaming either stick with the default 1280x800 screen or upgrade to the 1440x900. Personally I have the 1280x800 since there weren't any other options at the time of purchase and I'm completely satisfied with it.

    WXGA=wide screen...1440X900
    WXGA+=wide screen...1680X1050
    WUXGA=wide screen...1900X1200 (sum where around those two numbers)

    Oh ok so 1680X1050 for me since the laptop is usually going to be hooked up in my room. only time it will be out will be for school in which I'll only need about 3 hours of battery life unplugged to wall.

    WXGA+ =wide screen...1440X900
    WSXGA+ =wide screen...1680X1050
    WUXGA =wide screen...1920X1200

    A 2 GB ram is better than 3GB ram....??? NOT TRUE..

    My personal opinion: the higher the resolution the better.... Like everyone else said , Up to you... worse case you may get the 900X1440 ... this way you are in the middle and save 50$..
