What is your current memory speed ?
If you don't know, use CPU-Z to figure it out.

Well, if you have a free memory slot, I think get a DDR2-533/667 (whatever is cheaper because the dual-channel thing will underclock to DDR2-533).
Corsair is a good brand to consider.

All of the memory you picked out would work just fine. Crucial, OCZ, and Kensington are all good brands. The crucial 2gig pack is a good deal.

Im going to assume you mean the proper memory for your computer. There is no specific for your "brand" to say. Im sure there are exceptions but the m170 takes SODIMM DDR2 PC 5400 (667mhz) Not Dell memory, or anything special. As a rule of thumb it is nice to have 2 qualtiy stick from the same manufacturer at the same speed, but it isnt a requirement. If you want performance, dump your 533mhz stick and get the 2 667mhz sticks. You probably wont see much improvement from 1GB to 2GB of ram unless your doing some high end stuff (Multimedia/Graphic editing, CAD, etc.) or using Vista. But you may see some improvement stepping up from the 533 to 667. Again, it all depends on what your doing. I have 2 GB and I never go over 700mb of ram used except for in freebsd when compiling some really big things from binaries.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/memory_config.asp is kind of a neat tool.

PS RAM = Random Access Memory. Dont say RAM Memory (Random Access Memory Memory???) Kind of like ATM Machine or NIC Card.

I don't understand why my laptop is dell xps m170 and I have motherboard Inspiron XPS GEN 2?

The System Specific Memory must be Dell inspiron XPS Gen2 or XPS M170?
