    Hi there

I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on an issue I'm having with Dell.

I bought a Dell Inspiron from the Dell Outlet in May 2009 as a gift for my folks. After about 6 months it developed a fault with the screen - it would flicker and then go off, tapping lightly on the back of the screen would bring it back to life for a little bit. After putting up with this for a little while they eventually brought it to my attention and we had it fixed by Dell under the warranty. It was ok for about 4 months when the same fault occurred. Again Dell fixed the problem under warranty - this time replacing the motherboard. Well it's now 4 months later and exactly the same problem has occurred.

I phoned Dell to inform of the issue and they informed me that the replacement motherboard was only under warranty for 3 months and they could only fix it out of warranty for £350! I phoned again and complained and the best they came back with was a discount of £60. So that'll be £290 to fix a problem that they've already tried to fix twice under warranty.

Obviously I'm not happy about this. I've had Dells in the past and have always been happy with after sales service but I feel pretty let down in this case. Can anyone offer any advice on taking this further with Dell?

    Thanks

    John

Is the overall warranty now expired ? Is this why the motherboard warranty
    is an issue ?

Hi, yes the overall warranty was only for a year and expired in May.
