i've been looking around (alot) for a notebook in the past month and now that there's this new Santa Rosa platform i'm debating weather i should wait or not. I'm wondering when the release date will be for the dell canada (or is it all at the same time), and if there will be a price difference (cheaper or more $). thanks, p.h.

Well, the release should be at the same time, give or take a day or two. The actual release date is not final yet, but we expect it to be sometime in May, so if your looking for a notebook now, then its best to get one know. If you can wait, then it will be better. The performance difference won't be all that much, but the upgrade possibilities with Santa Rosa are much better.

Price wise, they should be higher at first, as supply is limited. Intel will want the price to be the same to temp people into buying Santa Rosa, so after a few weeks, the price should level off.

I'm shooting from the hip here..

    1. New technology always seems to be more expensive for awhile.
    2. Even though Santa Rosa will release in a month or two I'm guessing 4 or more months after that to show up and even then probably on high end systems 1st.
    3. If you can wait and want to pay more then go for it but if not systems are pretty nice now and you can always get a 802.11N card for existing computers.

    just my thoughts,

If you don't NEED a laptop now, but merely WANT one, wait.

Tech is constantly evolving: better, faster, cheaper.

If you're debating between waiting and buying... then wait! The fact that you're debating means that you don't need the notebook right now so why get one with such a significant upgrade around the corner.
