I'm going to order a new Inspiron and I'm looking at the options on Dell's site. They are:
1. Trend Micro Internet Security 15-months [Included in Price]
2. Trend Micro Internet Security 24-months [add $10]
3. Trend Micro Internet Security 36-months [add $20]
4. McAfee SecurityCenter 15-months add $0
5. Norton Internet Security 2007 15-months add $0
What is the best option here? If I choose one of the 15 month services, can I just extend the service later on if I decide to?

id say macafee would be the best out of those but what would be better is that if u get a free antivirus which is much more effective and less taxing on the system like avast
-
Or you can get many of the free options including AVG, Avast and CA
-
Wow, I didn't even know there were free anti virus programs... thanks!

search u will find a thread that lists all the best free software

To sum it up there are three major free antivirus software. AVG, Avast, and Antivir. If I were you I would go with Avast which has the highest detection rate of the three. It's much more resource friendly than Norton, McAfee, or Trend Micro. -
True. McAfee and Norton often slow down the whole computer and the boot process.

Out of the 3 options dell gives you, I'd choose McAfee or Trend Micro over Norton. They are all resource hogs but I find Norton to be the worse offender.
AVG is a very nice free anti-virus option but because it is free, it has some limitations on how you can customize it and doesn't offer an all in one package as some of the Dell options. ie firewall, spyware etc In order to get those options, you'd have to buy their pay package.
Another option of course is to just go and download all the free apps out there until you build a suite package. -
I don't use any antivirus, but then again, I don't know how tech savy you are. I'd choose none of them and go with NOD32.
