Ok My outlet inspiron came in today its a 9400, heres my rant on the problems. The screen is what really bothers me, its a samsung WUXGA and it has plenty of light leakage, I could handle that but then it looked like it had a dead pixel, upon closer examination its a piece of dirt trapped behind the screen, Iam really pissed, also the screen when you open it will sometimes creek loudly apon opening it. Then the battery even though it is a 6cell the life is ridiculus, fully charged when I take the adapter off the back it says 49 mins remaining, I cant even get a hour of battery life? when I went into the dell bios it said something like the battery has a lot of wear on it. the graphics card a 7800 runs really hot I hope it will hold out. the good things I can say I was susposed to get a 5400 drive but I think I got a 7200 heres the model number HTS721080G9SA00 when I typed it in google it said 7200. anyways I bought a 2yr warrenty, should I call dell, do you think they would replace the display and do a decent job. I almost forgot to stay the bezel above the keyboard where you pop out to acess the inside was not popped in all the way. Its like they shoddy build these things and if it wasn't for the low price I would be really mad.

Jeps i have one dead pixel and the display was replaced, because is call them 5 days after receiving.

But the replaced screen have a little tiny spot (behind) the lcd. But much less irritating than a dead pixel.

Not any screen is perfect, so think before replacing. ma bey its getting worser.

    You sure it's not refurbished?

All those problems and miss matched hardware would make me think so.

Sorry to hear that... if i were you, i would give them a call...

i hate their customer support though... it takes forever... so grab a dvd and just watch it or do something else while waiting for someone to pick up the phone...

no its a refurb stratch and dent and the case looks fine, it just seems with the bezel not snapped into place and dirt behind the screen that someone did a shoddy job, plus I think the battery life should be at least an hour, I read a review on here of a 9400 with the 7800gpu and six cell battery and he got 2 hours 41 mins, even if I had everything on max, it should get more, for comparison my 6 month acer that is in my sig has a 8cell battery and when I unplug it the estimated time is 3 hours 9 mins. and again I fully charged the dell and unpluged it and the batt meter said 56 mins granted the acer has much less powerful hardware.

I never like Inspiron because of that: except 700M. All XPS are good LCD and I very like it.

just got a new xps 1710 myself. Impressed by everything except it doesnt play DVD movies! when i put the DVD in it brings up the cineplayer interface then tries to play the movie but it is like it moving in slow motion or that the disk is scratched. Tried it on a few dvd movies same result. The thing is the DVD drive works fine with DVD games so does that mean its a software or driver problem?

The DVD drive may be in PIO mode instead of DMA. Check the Microfot site or Google for a fix.

If it's just not put together correctly, maybe you could take it apart and reassemble? Not sure how difficult that would be but you can find the service manuals online to get an idea.

Last resort: You have 21 days to return it. I like Dell's a lot, but if you are not happy with it, DO NOT keep it. They should not send out machines in that bad of condition.

I've never seen an E1705 that didn't creek. It usually goes away after a couple of days, though.

Not a chance. You'd be lucky - very lucky - to get that with a 9-cell with that setup.

I agree with the Super Saiyajin. If you're this unhappy with it, you should definitely return it; but if you're expecting perfection, you should consider getting something other than a scratch-and-dent.

Well I decided I will deal with it but I do want dell to at least replace the battery, Just browing the internet with wifi on theres no way it should get below an hour so if they replace the battery I will be a happy camper. I just bought half life 2 and played it for the first time, Iam amazed at the graphics! I didn't tweak really anything but I set it at the native true life res and man was it amazing! I sure love the power of this thing. also you are right, it stopped creaking on the display so thats a good thing.

Ok yesterday I used the media direct insted of booting into windows and decided to watch smokey and the bandit and it did not even play half the movie before the battery died so I know the six cell I got is in bad condition, since I do have a 21day return policy what should I say to dell because I want a new battery, there is no way when everything is trottled down that this thing should get below an hour. should I call dell or use the online chat thing?

how bad is the light leakage and dirt behind the screen, can you take some pictures?

It'd be nice to see how minor cosmetic imperfections are, if they're really bad send it back and you shouldn't have to pay the restocking fee
