Okay guys, take this for what you will. I spoke to a online tech today and asked if the current "grainy screen issue with WXGA+ screens" has been fixed. I'm not saying that he was telling the truth for sure or not........just take a look:

Cary Phillips: "hi, i was wondering.......has dell fixed the grainy screen problem that was happening on many inspiron 1520's?"
09/07/2007 08:33:23PM Agent: "I will surely check that for you."
09/07/2007 08:33:25PM Agent : "Please verify your first and last name as on the records."
09/07/2007 08:33:29PM Cary: "Cause I'm worried my computer will have a grainy screen.......like many people have"
    09/07/2007 08:33:37PM Cary: "Cary "
    09/07/2007 08:33:45PM Agent : "Thank you."
09/07/2007 08:34:00PM Agent : "Is your current email address ***[email protected] ?"
    09/07/2007 08:34:10PM Cary : "yes"
    09/07/2007 08:34:33PM Agent : "Thank you."
09/07/2007 08:35:23PM Agent : "If you have any such issue then you may definitely contact our technical department who would be able to assist you."
    09/07/2007 08:35:38PM Cary : "what?"
    09/07/2007 08:35:44PM Cary : "I haven't even gotten my order yet"
09/07/2007 08:36:17PM Cary : "i just want to make sure Dell has fixed the overall problem"
09/07/2007 08:36:23PM Cary : "because many laptops with the resolution of 1440 x 900 had grainy screens"
09/07/2007 08:38:00PM Agent : "Do not worry as there is a stage where the systems are now, after reaching the final stage of production are sent through a process of build, test and then shipment."
    09/07/2007 08:38:51PM Cary : "i understand that"
09/07/2007 08:39:13PM Cary : "but even with that prcoess many people have received grainy screens"
09/07/2007 08:39:13PM Cary : "and had to replace them"
09/07/2007 08:39:32PM Agent : "Hence there are no such issues like grainy screens any more."
09/07/2007 08:39:57PM Cary : "what do you mean?"
09/07/2007 08:41:39PM Agent : "Cary, I certainly understand your concern hence the system that are in production would not have these issues as now they have been tested before shipping them out."
09/07/2007 08:42:06PM Cary : "but hasn't that always been the process?"
09/07/2007 08:42:29PM Cary : "you speak as if this is a new process but as far as im aware, Dell has always tested the systems before shipping"
09/07/2007 08:43:33PM Agent : "There is a double check and a test that the 1440 x 900 are going through due to grainy screen before shipping them out."
    09/07/2007 08:43:54PM Cary : "really?"
09/07/2007 08:44:07PM Cary : "If thats true, its very reassuring"
09/07/2007 08:44:28PM Cary : "but I sincerely hope that is true"
09/07/2007 08:44:59PM Agent : "That's definitely an update that we have received."
    09/07/2007 08:45:22PM Cary s: "than thank you"
    09/07/2007 08:45:33PM Agent : "You are welcome."

First, never trust a CSR. Second, what do you mean by "double-check" shouldn't they have checked in the first place? Plus, you don't need to look at the screen twice to know it's grainy.
