Does anyone know whether Dell sells the dvd writer as an aftermarket upgrade for the Inspiron 1520? I purchased with just the cd burner, and I'm kicking myself for not buying the writer.

Also, is the paint on anyone else's 1520 rubbing off?

Just go to eBay or Newegg and buy a generic DVD writer, take the face plate off your CD burner, and install the new DVD writer.
99% of laptop burners are generic with the manufacturer's plastic face plate on it.

i've even seen reviews with paint peeling off (like the reviews hand notebooks to the next reviewer)

i know that black is more durable, as it is different paint (or even its plastic).
