For owners of this laptop, how is the general screen quality for the e1405?

I recently ordered one and the sentiment seems to be that the screens are hit or miss, with them generally being of lower quality than other Dells.

I checked out a friend's e1405 before buying and the screen wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either. Some light leakage, but nothing too distracting.

If a screen is really below par, is it possible to get an exchange?

To answer your last question first...yes it is possible to get an exchange, but it is not a guarantee that the will be any better.

The screen quality on my current E1405 is excellent. There is minimal light leakage and it is very bright. There are no dark spots and it is not grainy.

However, my friend's E1405 isn't very good. It's very grainy and there's quite a bit of light leakage. There seems to be dark spots in the corners and it is not very bright. The screen was also mounted improperly and was slightly crooked. He sent it back and they are sending him a new one.

I'm not sure if you would be able to tell a noticeable difference b/w the 2 if you just saw the not as good one. Some people have looked at my friend's and thought it was fine. But you can tell a big difference when looking at mine and his side-by-side.

So I guess (unfortunately), it is very hit or miss. Some people have no issues and others do. I'm not even sure if the LCD brand matters or not.

Thanks for the input. It sounds very much like any other laptop purchase. If you're lucky, you end up getting a nice screen.
