I was wondering whether my Dell E1705 which I ordered from the american Dell website would need a different charger or an adapter for use in Europe? I also would like to know whether I should buy one of those surge protectors for my notebook. Up to now I haven't used one and the lappy has been working perfectly for over 2 months.

    Thanks in advance!

I dont swear it, but I would assume that you would just need to by an adaptor to convert our plugs into theirs (different shapes). I know that it works for every other electrical device I have ever traveled with, but i leave like a 3% uncertainty just so I dont lead you astray.

You'll need a European adapter to use it in with european outlets. What do you mean surge protectors? Like the targus travel one or your ordinary power strips. I only have a power strip/surge in my room. I certainly don't carry one with me. Although my friend does carry one in his bad at all times and has a 17 incher. Guess I'm not a avid protector of my notebook.

Yes, you only need the prong adapters found a Radio Shack and others. The charger is rated 110-220VAC - 50/60Hz and in a pinch makes a fine surge adapter. You may fry the AC/DC adapter but very unlikly to harm the notebook unless you get a full frontal lightning strike! For severe low voltage you will start draining the battery. I use mine in locations with bad SCR noise and surges with no problems.
