Very interesting I thought it was

Ignore all the lead times, though haha.
Looks like dell just hasn't got enough parts to manufacture our laptops and the parts are ordered every 2 hours!

Nice article!
-
sweet post kirill. it makes me wonder why my inspiron is taking so long to build though...
-
sweet it takes 4 hours to build the laptop but were here waiting 2 months for them to get shipped out. GG dell for only having two days worth of inventory lol.
-
As long as prices are low, I'm alright with it.
-
Is it just assembly that they do in the Irish factory? Also, I'm curious if European customer's Vostros are Irish or Malaysian.
-
Interesting article... thanks for sharing it!

great post. yeah does make you wonder.
Dell take so many orders, surly they could increase the stock in hand to 4 days? -
neat.
now why does the boxing stage take so long? or do they wait until they have a full load before they actually ship them out? -
Nice link, thx
-
Assuming you are in the states, it's not beacuse they have to wait until they have a full load...the finish a new laptop every 30 seconds, doesn't take long for them to fill a truck or something. It's because they aren't actually boxed where they are shipped. They are sent overseas on planes to TN or NV depending on where you live, where they are taken off of pallets and put into boxes with manuals and accessories and batteries and stuff
-
Great post!

@ DoubleBlack, no, the link (pictures 11 and 12) says that unless you have a printer or PDA or separate accessory like that, all the manuals and chargers and batteries + etc... are boxed at the factory.
-
@ Whistle, no, the link says it refers to the IRISH factory
-
I'd actually would have rather paid a little more to see the jobs going to americans
but oh well... still its cool to see how they get built ....
-
It appears that people in the UK get the factory near to us but still pay more and receive our notebooks later than the US counterparts ... would be happier if the factory did move to the US and the US/UK situations were reversed
-
Very interesting. Thanks for posting
-
just a quick bump
-
hmmm.... I wonder what the Dell plant in Malaysia looks like.
-
According to the slowness of the production stage, I can only assume that the factory looks like this:
-
The article was great, I wonder how employee retention at dell is like. -
hmm the article is 2 years old.
I am wondering how would it be now being at dell?
May be I should apply for job? -
ROFLMFAO
*sigh -
Here is another dell factory...

At the end he says " We saw workers assembling a desktop in 3 minutes, and notebooks in less than that" WT... ?
I'd like to think that they can spend at least 5 minutes putting my notebook together. Surely a couple extra minutes spent in care taken at assembly stage would save magnitudes of warranty dollars down the track one the unit is delivered to the customer ? -
Not specifically about laptops, but...

That's depressing. Just reinforces to me how WE will soon be the third world country since we produce nothing but buy everything. No jobs, no foreign capital coming in. Sheesh, I didn't know they even produce in Afrcia ... anywhere but Americah, eh?
