I got my Inspiron 1520 on monday and the LCD was by AUO. So I sent it for replacement LCD on tuesday and got it back just now, AUO AGAIN. Dell is pissing me off. Online CSR told me only AUO LCDs are in stock for Inspiron 1520, so if you guys are returning it...good luck.

I doubt their CSRs know exactly what brand is in stock. I think they just say stuff like that to shut people up. As most company just deal in part numbers and let that be it.

And it would stand to reason they would have more AUO screens if people are returning those in for repair. If they don't see the graininess as a problem they will recertify those screens and put them in the queue...

Well, obviously they aren't seeing the problem as there are so many customer complaints. Their idea of working: does it turn on? Does it have less than 6 dead pixels?

oh well...returning it and getting a Vostro 1500. By the way "Online CSR told me only AUO LCDs are in stock for Inspiron 1520" was from technical support, and they told me the LCD for Vostro 1500 are Samsung, CPT, and AUO. So yea...I config the 1500 and it came out less than the 1520, maybe cheaper if I order on phone :)

Just be sure not to order WXGA+ Truelife, that's the AUO LCD for the Vostro 1500, that is if you want to avoid AUO LCDs. WSXGA+ TLF and WXGA is a Samsung, while WXGA TLF is a CPT.

because your system may have shipped with that specs, then they will replace it with that same specs. that could be the reason you still got the same lcd.

Got my vostro 3 days ago and it was AUO. Tech came today and replaced it with ANOTHER AUO!!!!!!!
I showed him the problem and he said at this point I just just ask for exchange so I really don't know what to do :(

Tech says it seems to be a bad batch. It has happened in the past with Dell screens according to him ( tough not the grain problem). He was helpful and even he said that is unacceptable and there is no reason for me to adjust to the screen because it's just defective.

AUO screen have "AUO" stamped on the lower left side of the screen ) you can see it when you remove the front bezel.

    Hmmmm That's not right.

Co-worker has a WXGA screen and it's AUO with NO GRAIN what so ever.

I've seen people get LG WXGA+ screens that are fine.

I posting this on my 2 day old Vostro 1500 with grainy AUO WXGA+ that is being returned on Tuesday. Others have had two or three WXGA+ replacements and keep on getting the grainy AUO screen, so I'm not going that route. Instead, I've ordered a Vostro 1700 with WUXGA (1920X1200). If that turns out to be a grainy nightmare, then I'll make one last try with a Vostro 1500 WXGA (1280X800).

I talked to Customer Care and told them about my problem. They just didn't get it. At least I'm able to return for a full refund.
