i recently had my LCD screen replaced and the CPU fan replaced on my XPS M1210 but problems occured like a half a hour after the repair. My wireless card was cutting in and out. This has happened before. So i called Dell XPS Support and told them the problems Ive been having with my Computer. The parts that were replaced from february was

    1.LCD Back Cover
    2. LCD Bezel due to paint chippings
    3. DVD-RW Drive
    4. LCD Screen
    5. Keyboard.
    6.LCD Screen

So The Tech guy placed me on Hold for about 5mins . The tech spoke to his manager and he decided to give me a New XPS M1210 (or possibly the M1330) a system exchange. he said it will be better then the current one that i have. Dell has the best service. i should be receiving my new Unit within 10 days. ill have to return the old unit.

    On one hand that's cool.

On the other hand, it sure would tick me off to get that quality of hardware ;)

I'm glad for you that they replaced it though, and I Do hope you get the 1330. After all that, you deserve it, but.

It's great that you're getting an upgrade! Enjoy it. Just hope it isn't as badly built as the one your original, ;).

XPS support is based here in the US as far as I know. Normal Dell Home Customer Service is based in India though.

Honestly, from my personal experiences with both of them, I say that Dell support is much better than HP. I was present when my friend's dad called HP tech support and they were horrible (indian). Ironically, the first question they asked him was if he had plugged the PC into the power outlet and if he had pressed the power button. It was very frustrating for him as they put him on hold many times and they didn't give it to the supervisor when asked.

My cousin is actually a supervisor for Dell Tech Support in Tennessee. I've seen him and he is really helpful. I used to speak with him a lot about comps and he helped me quite a bit.

No doubt then, that your opinion is totally unbiased.

I was present once when my son spoke to Indian CS reps. They were very nice, professional and helped my boy to get his machine up and running again.

My cousin is a retired real estate developer who lives in Las Vegas. I don't discuss computers with her, but she can hit a softball pretty well for an old gal, likes to knit, and has a beautiful swimming pool in her back yard.

XPS support does have Indian based techs, but that group (from what a tech told me) is made of techs promoted from the Inspiron line support. XPS-India was definitely high quality from when I owned my M140.

I've also done the HP support (both consumer and business), and the business line support is really good...but the consumer support was fairly good in my personal experience. Others have had major issues, but I never really did.

everyone should know that dell's customer service is definitely not the best. Like someone mentioned earlier, it's the XPS line that receives the quality customer support. If you have a dimension, you may get lucky with someone who really knows what they're telling you.

Well, of course not all of them are good or bad, in both Dell and HP's cases.

I made it clear that I said from my personal experience. EVERYONE is going to have different experiences so it's not fair to either tech support.

However, I just wanted to add in my personal experience. It's not biased, I've experienced some bad from Dell, too. One of my friends had the last-gen 17" Inspiron and the support he recieved was pretty bad, each of the four times he needed assistance.

Your cousin sounds like a very interesting person. Is she a smartass like you, too?

I see we're now resorting to name-calling and very weak insults when our argument is without substance. :D

Actually, you presented your case as if you were a major CS authority because you had personal experience with Indian (so they're Indian . . . what difference does that make?) HP reps (though the experience wasn't even your own), while at the same time having a cousin who coincidentally, just happened to be a Dell tech. Unbiased??? No, of course not.

And, yes, my cousin is quite the lady. Extremely intelligent, witty, and, as I mentioned, whacks the hell out of a softball.

I still have no idea what you are getting at. Many polls taken on this site are all based on personal experiences and opinion. I in no way said that Dell is factually better with their support than HP. Just because I mention my cousin works for Dell does not make me biased. I am fully aware of the problems people have faced with Dell in the past, including some of my close friends.

If you think your included info about your cousin does not give me the right to call you a smartass, then I do not know what you are thinking....I included my cousin in there because I wanted people who think all Dell support is bad.....to see that there is good and bad everywhere.

And I, myself, am Indian....so relax with that.

On another note, just because it was my experience directly, I can't share it? I was present at the time it happened and I heard it all on speaker, so it's valid.

dell customer support is awesome when it comes to parts replacement.

I have noticed though that a lot of their support techs have been nastier on the phones lately, wich needs to be addressed.

Sorry for the off-topic - Illmatic - I'm just hours away from my 1520 order. I'm getting mine thru AAFES (military PX system) and they currently only offer Dell wireless cards. I'm prolly going to get the same LCD but a smaller hdd & only 1-Gb RAM. I don't plan to even boot the Vista OEM drive - I have a 160-Gb ready to pop into it...
