Hello. I'm would like to know, if Northwood with 400FSB would work in Dell Inspiron 8200? Tehnically i8200 have 845MP chipset, that supports 400FSP processors, but i havent found any information if it supports desktop processors. Tehnically Pentium 4 mobile is same CPU but with lower Vcore, less power consumption and less heat.
And heat or power consumption is not problem, i just want to know if desktop CPU will work in dell i8200.
Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums
If yours has a Pentium 4 mobile processor, the answer is most likely negative. -
Even if it was compatible, I'd be worried if the single heatpipe in the Inspiron 8200 can handle the thermal output of the desktop P4.
-
It'll probably be incompatible.
P.S. : About that CPU upgrade, wait for other people's opinion. There might be a possibility that it might be done (the socket is the same) but it's extremely extremely unlikely.See this link for more info (look at the power consumption and multiplier) :

In all likelihood, the extra heat will fry your computer.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
There have been many notebooks that used desktop p4's, the XPS G1 for example, even then they all ran realy hot and had major throttling issues, if your machine was designed expressly around a mobile part, I seriously doubt it could withstand the heat of a full blown desktop model. Heat and power consumption IS a problem, that why they made a mobile variant,Intel issued a statement to avoid laptops with their dsktop CPUs as they usually have major over heating issues and poor battery life, when the chip overheats, it automatically throttles down to prevent damage, basically any demanding application would cause the chips to throttle down yielding very poor performance. Your best option would be to get the fastest mobile version available for your model, or upgrade to a more modern machine, what applications are you having trouble running with your current setup?

I bought 8200 inspiron used from USA, and only reason why i did, because i could get it pretty cheap. What i like is 15' 1600x1200 LCD, while most modern notebooks with 14-15' have only 1280x800 resolution. Model what i purchased have 1.6 Pentium Mobile, 256Mb ram, Geforce 2Go, but i will upgrade to 2.2Ghz Mobile CPU, 1GB ram, geforce 4Go and some ~120GB hdd. But once again i would like to know is somebody installed 533FSB mobile cpu in 8200 inspiron? 533FSB ones are dirt cheap, while mobile cpus with 400FSB are rather expensive.
Here are my old Compaq armada 1750 with little DIY to decrease CPU temp, because of overheat. I like do DIY

Are you sure that you can upgrade the GPU ?
-
You cannot upgrade the GPU.

Please read the GPU Guide.
Even if it is upgradeable, you'd at best be limited to whatever the notebook was offered with during it's lifetime. Anything that came with that laptop is not going to be a performance card by any means, which means an upgrade is NOT going to help you. -
I know what can help me and what cannot. I just wanted to know about CPU upgrade, i spent days in google, but no luck about 533FSB CPU's in i8200.
Geforce4Go is much faster than Geforce2Go and once again, i bought laptop because it was cheap, and it have incredibly good screen. I had lot of desktop Geforce 2 MX200 and Geforce 4 MX400/440 and i know difference. And another reason, i love to DIY, doesn't matter what is it, it must be assembled by me -
Okay, i got laptop month ago, and when arriwed it was
Pentium 4 mobile 1.6Ghz
256MB CL2.5 RAM
40GB 2MB cache HDD
Geforce2go 32MB
and i upgraded to
Pentium 4 mobile 2.4Ghz
1GB CL2 RAM
80Gb 8Mb cache HDD
Geforce4go 64MB. Also i overclocked GPU.
Now its pretty fast and does everything i need.
