I’m a Sales Engineer for the East coast of the USA so I travel a lot but I also enjoy gaming. I currently lug a Dell i1150 around the county and it is doable. My question is it feasible to buy the i9300 for the business traveler?

    Thanks in advance.

Its a big sucker. Id say roughly 8-9pounds. It depends on your tolerance i guess. Id reccommend the better battery if you plan to make it a mobile monster. I personally take it everywhere i go. I got that backpack and it holds everything and more. I dont know about other i9300's here, but i think it handles its specs pretty well.
If your willing to haul the extra few pounds, get the good battery, and get that Nvidia card......i say do it.

Actually, when I got mine I lifted the box and said "no, it can't be in here, it doesn't weigh enough!" It's very light for it's size; I had an Inspiron 5100 and I'll bet it's 1-2 lbs. lighter than that! The power brick is very small as well. Good idea to get the large Dell backpack - it fits well in there with lots of room and pockets for other items, and it looks good - very nice!

    Thanks Guys!

So if I can deal with the size, it can be doable to bring on an airplane as carry-on? I have no plans on doing work on the plane becuse I sleep most of the time. This is cool because I like to have the option of playing games like Doom3 via the Nvidia card.

I would go for the i6000d if it had the Nvidia option.

    Thanks for the input!

I think its okay to take on a plane. Its just that , if im not mistaken, the graphics card vent is on the bottom of the machine. So if you have any long flights , you may feel a bit of heat.(I havent really run the card through its course yet so im probably giving a worse case scenario)....Like i said before , its big but manageable.
Its a perfect in-flight movie machine by my standards.Good luck.

I got dells case for it, it fits ut the thing is big and it takes some getting used to. You can't lug it and a bunch of stuff in the same case like you could with those small things. It is thin I think given it's footprint.

I have taken my 9300 out about 4 times, but have not carried it any further than to the car, into the office, and into school. If you had to walk around with that thing for a while, it might wear you down a little. I think you COULD use it on the plane without an issue, even in those narrow seats in coach section.

I have the big Dell backpack for it, and IT'S GREAT. As mentioned before, LOTS of pockets, zippers, extra storage (I get my huge full-sized planner and extra papers in there -- NO PROBLEM), and WIDE padded straps for carrying comfort. I sling it over one shoulder, so I can't tell you if it's comfortable as a "real" backpack.

I've sat with it on my lap for a few hours, doing normal work and surfing the internet, and there's NO heat from it. Ever so slightly warm, maybe... but not even close to hot.

Whether this thing is "practical" for a traveling business person is questionable. If you need it for work purposes, save the money and get a 15". If you're buying it to play games and watch movies, GO FOR IT. Let me just add that it's got a great sound system, too!
