So I was thinking of what to buy my girl as a gift, and lo and behold, her Inspiron has an HDMI port. Now, will the integrated graphics run things smoothly? and what kind of resolution/picture quality should I be expecting?

Unless you're playing wmv files downloaded onto your computer expect some serious tearing and framerate issues.

Yes the integrated will be able to handle the output just fine. Of course don't expect to play games on it, but watching movies would be fine.

A slight difference. VGA is analog and HDMI is digital. HDMI is the highest quality image.
