Hi, my first post so hopefully someone can help me out there with a couple of questions! I have a 1525 Inspiron laptop with 3 gb memory and wondered what my upgrade options are?
What is maximum memory upgrade that I can go to?
Lappy has dvd burning facilities but want to upgrade to blue-ray [preferably burning facilities and not just the player]. Is this possible?
What other options do I have with lappy regarding upgrade?
Thank you

You can't really upgrade anything except maybe the processor. The graphics card is a no go, I'm not sure if you could buy the blu ray part from ebay or somewhere, and 3GB to 4GB is hardly any difference.

Maximum Memory on the Intel GM965 chipset (which is what the Inspiron 1525 is based off of) is 4 GB (2x2GB RAM sticks). As for upgrades, you can upgrade the processor, but if you were alluding to video cards, no you can't upgrade because it is soldered to the board. I think you could probably fit a BluRay drive into the Inspiron 1525, but you will either need to contact Dell to see whether they will upgrade your drive for a fee or search for a compatible drive on eBay. Neither options are very good because you'll need to take the whole computer apart in order to replace the drive.

The only thing I'd add to the above posters regarding the RAM is that upgrading to 4 GB is practically useless if you don't have a 64-bit OS.
Also, you can upgrade the processor, but it's most likely not worth the hassle.
The HDD would be a fairly simple component to upgrade. -
Agreed. Of course, there are exceptions like Windows Server 2003 or 2008, whose 32-bit versions can use all 4GB of RAM, although no more than that. If you're a student, you can actually download and get licenses for both of these operating systems for free via Microsoft's Dreamspark program.

Agreed and agreed. -
Wow, I did not know of the Dreamspark program! Thanks for pointing this out

For sure.
If you have an official .edu school email address (this works in 80-some countries last time I checked), you just register and get pretty much instant access to a whole bunch of neat Microsoft software, including Server 2003 and 2008, with an official Microsoft keygen, for free.

Thanks, I downloaded Server 2008 yesterday
