Hi,
I recently ordered an Inspiron 1525 (cpu T7250 2G/800mhz FSB, 1G DDR2 @667mhz) and I wanna manually upgrade to 4G DDR2 800mhz.
But I searched the official dell discussion and found that "the ram will still run at 667 because the fsb:dram ratio is hardware locked.
the dell bios has no user option to change this." even the system support 533/667/800 FSB (listed in dell user manual).
Can anybody tell me whether it is true or not?
Thanks...
-
its true no core2duo can run 800mhz ram

AFAIK only the Montevina platform will support RAM @ 800MHz. Current SantaRosa doesn't.

It's a chipset limitation not a Dell limitation.

Thank you a lot for quick responses~~
Another concern~
Currently, the Frys offers 4G ram promotions at pc2-5400(675mhz) from OCZ & pc2-5300(667mhz) from PQI.
Based on the chipset limitation, even I chose the pc2-5400, but it will downgrade at 667?
Also, between OCZ and PQI, which one is better (performance and reliability, 'cause I have never used these two brands before..)?
Thanks again~~
ps. the same price(59.99 after rebate, but the frys removed the link of rebate form for OCZ. Luckly, I have written it down. http://image.ak.outpost.com/art/rebates_pdf/5439699_011708.pdf ) -
Well, my brother and I both recently bought laptops and he hot PQI and I got OCZ. Mine worked fine and he had troubles with his, and only runs one stick of the 2GB in his. It might just be his computer.
Dell inspiron 1525 doesn't support DDR2 800?
