    It could be a multitude of things but I would try;

    1) Using a multimeter to test your current Dell AC Adapter

    2) A known good Dell 90 watt AC Adapter

    3) Removing the battery and trying it then

    Sounds like you may have a short on your motherboard if you try all those steps and are experiencing the same issues. If it's the motherboard, you can try going on Ebay to look for another motherboard or buy a barebones 1525 and rebuild yours. 1525 are also getting pretty cheap these days.

    It could be, the charger board is a completely seperate piece (after 1525 they started doing that for the Inspiron line). The only way to test is by replacing that part or the motherboard. Charger board looks like a 10 dollar part on Ebay.

    Yes you might possibly have a short on the motherboard then.

    Not unless you know how to perform board level circuitry repair...might be easier buying another 1525 for parts or a shell or a new laptop if you don't want to deal with all the hassle..

    You can find a replacement (make sure it's marked new) motherboard for around $175 - $250 on eBay. You'd have to take apart your laptop yourself, so I suggest getting used to the Service Manual from the Dell's Support Site. I was a novice when it came to computers but after cautious and careful taking apart of my laptop the first time around, I was able to replace multiple pieces of equipment.

    My advice would be to buy a motherboard, if you really want to keep the same laptop but you probably could find the laptop itself on eBay as well, but the odds are it'll be used and probably worth at least 2.0 to 2.5 times the price of the motherboard.
