    Hey guys

First time poster first time finder lol

My Dell Inspiron 6000 (sisters actualy) is 2 months away from its final stage in its 3yr full coverage nd accidental coverage warrenty and before i send it in for a final check over and fix up (nt reali any probs wit it tho) i would like to see what her future upgrade paths are.

I have always noticed that this baby heats up like theres not tommoro and its mostly from the laptop side so is there a specific HDD i can buy that is cooler then the dell ones? size isnt an issue.

Another main issue wel its the only basic issue is heat towords the main air vent and near the ram stick ... is there any mod or fans i can buy to change the current fans with so that the laptop cools better?

and finaly i was wondering if its possible to change or upgrade the cpu? since im thinking that since the newer c2d cpu's are more powerful consume less and are smaller so generate more heat wernt they be better ? btw the cpu curently is a pentium M 1.83Ghz or so.

thnx all help appreciated and sorry for the ranting nd spelling mistakes

I would clean out the vent, fan, and also apply new thermal paste. You won't be able to use the Core 2 Duos in that notebook unfortunately. For the hard drive, you could purchase one that runs at 5400 rpm as they will produce less heat. If it is the original hard drive, you might look at replacing it anyhow as three years is about all the longer I would trust a drive if you use the notebook a lot.

As noted, you should clean out the laptop. See the cooling guide.

You can't change the fans in the laptop.

I would not spend any money on upgrading the CPU; the Pentium M is way outdated and upgrading it to a faster model won't help any. The best upgrades would be RAM and hard drive.

The Inspiron 6000 takes 200-pin, DDR2-533 So-DIMM RAM. Like this:

RAM is the cheapest and easiest way to increase overall system performance.

For the hard drive, which is also a great performance upgrade, I suggest a Western Digital drive. A 5400RPM drive as atbnet noted will run coolest. This is a good one:

Well i think the current harddrive is 5200 being the standerd in mid range laptops in those days. I mite install windows 7 on it and see if that helps make it more lag free well actualy xp runs fairly smoth on the lappy especialy when i put all fans to crank on full.

I have another question since im going to ask dell to replace the laptop shell eg the case, would they be able to change it to a diffrent colored case? cause when the laptop was bought dell didnt offer a coloured range of cases
