I have a Inspiron E1505 I'm trying to fix for a friend...The display is broken a 1/3 of it doesn't work so I was wondering if anyone knew if a display from a Gateway MT6458 which i have just for spare parts...will swap out.. they are both 15.4" displays and both 1280x800 WXGA displays....any info on this i would appreciate...

It could be possible. You need to make sure that the screen uses the same ribbon cable connector as the Gateway screen. Physically look at the female port on the back of both LCD's and compare. If the E1505 cable doesnt fit the Gateway screen than right off the bat you know they are incompatible with each other.
Both should use the same inverter plugs, but you may need to use the gateway screen inverter in the Dell too, if the ribbon cable matches
