Hey, new to the forums but fairly tech savy....

So I'm trying to upgrade my ram, right now I have 2Gb that the system sees, however when I crack open the back all I see is 1 slot that has 1 chip in it which is a 1GB chip.

Does anyone know where the other RAM slot is?

The other slot is underneath the keyboard. You have to take off the part with "Inspiron 1520" on it from between the keyboard and the screen, and then take off the keyboard to get to the RAM slot. Note that there are a couple screws to take out before you can take the keyboard off. The Inspiron 1520 plate comes off just by putting a scribe in the slot on its right and lifting it up and out that way - make sure your screen is all the way open when you do this. Your computer should be off, too - it won't really make a difference at that point but it will if you take the memory module out.

The 1520 should support up to 8 GB of RAM, although Dell doesn't officially support it. Forum members have tested the 1720 up to 6 GB, XPS 1530 up to 8 GB, and XPS 1330 up to 6 GB that I know of, and the Inspiron 1520 is of the same Intel platform as those. So you could just upgrade the easy-to-access slot to a 4 GB module and have 5 GB total, although this isn't the most economical option due to the cost of 4 GB modules.

Thank you very much, found it and it works like a charm, still only registering 3.75 but I think that's XP's max. I was looking for the users manual and couldn't find.

...not as soon as I get my other one back from MSI I'll me all set.
