    Dell insprion shuts down! Help!

    I have a dell insprion 1000 that shuts down after startup. I am runing windows XP. It gets to the windows startup screen then shuts down. Does not seem to matter if I have it plugged in or not. Any ideas or help is appriciated.

    Anthony, can you tell me more specifically what you mean by "it shuts down."

    Does the system actually go through the Windows Shutdown procedure? Does the system just suddenly lose power? Does the system reboot? Do you get any error messages along with the problem?

    Not sure if this helps, but when I got my 9300 new, it would fail to restart from hibernation exactly like this about 2/5. This completely stopped once I performed a clean install and got rid of all the Dell crapware.

    Hopefully you bought the XP disk with the laptop, I fully reccomend the clean install, and this is the least of the reasons. There is an excellent guide here
