It's a done deal: Dell puts an end to all 140 US mall kiosks: http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/30/its-a-done-deal-dell-puts-an-end-to-all-140-us-mall-kiosks/

Kiosks were good for checking out what products look and feel like, then you can go online at home and buy. They never showed anything but home devices at kiosks though, no Latitudes etc.
-
OMG does that mean no more tax for dell home!?
-
They will most likely still charge tax.
-
Oh well, no big deal. You can still check out Dell computers at Best buy and Staples.
-
They probably just weren't making enough money from them. Because you can check them out at B&M's, I think it was a good move financially for them to close the kiosks.
-
I disagree. I mean, they will in some states... but as I recall they used to not charge tax in most states before the kiosks, and now they do. Without the kiosks they shouldn't need to anymore.
I don't think they ever expected them to make tons of money themselves... but it was a place to check out the machines in person. Now that you can check out most of them at Best Buy (and some other stores), there's not much point anymore. There are a lot more Best Buy stores around than there ever were Dell kiosks. -
The reason for closure isn't because they weren't raking up the moolah but for reducing the total number of employees. That is why some of the representatives who did very well are sad at the company's decision.
