What problems were you having with the Studio 15?
I would like to know because I am buying my wife one end of this month for x-mas. It would be nice to know if I need to look at another brand.

I'm disappointed anyways with them because they have discontinued the color she wanted. She gave me two choices she liked, one was the Red swirl artist design, the other was the Graphite grey with the blue trim.

the part where your palms rest wasn't glued to the bottom half of the case, the keyboard flexes (<<<this may be how they all are), the wifi switch is very loose, the power cord slips out very easily, the case is bulging up by the speakers and has a dent, it is coming apart in the back, the speakers are CRAP and crackle when any audio is playing, when i first got it the computer didn't even recognize the fingerprint reader....I am not getting my hopes high on everything being fixed... with the new one they are sending... but as long as the case is on right and the speakers don't crackle then ill be fine otherwise its going back to dell and I'm getting a refund.....

I have heard a lot of the same things. I just talked with my wife, and she is going to look at the HP and Sony line. Dell is just really going down hill with their products. The most sad part is, they really do not care.

yep...it's sad they have some nice looking laptops like the studio and xps with tons of features...but if half of the features they offer don't work then whats the point...like i said...if I am not satisfied with this new one they are sending then it will be going back...and I will be fighting the 15% restocking fee...and then I will be doing what your wife is and looking at the sony FW series and HP...I'll probably go with HP since I think I can get more for the money....I really hope the new laptop is perfect because I love the studio

If you are buying a laptop for your wife why not just get her a netbook? I'm going on the typical assumption that she doesn't do anything heavy power related and that she uses it to check her email and websurf so a netbook with ubuntu would be perfect. I dunno about the women you are married to but my mom only cares that the laptop is small and that she can connect to youtube and email. I wouldn't worry about how "fast" a laptop is since intel processors are amazingly fast and just keep getting fast but would look at the design and weight.

I am guessing you just got a bad one. Mine couldn't be any better in my opinion. Good luck with the next one.

As long as companies are reasonable about it it's ok. Dell will always be reasonable about exchanging laptops and a lot of other companies will. It's those small resellers that offer you the best price online(with a 14 day return policy starting from when the product was shipped) that you can't trust.

Yeah. My studio 17 rocks... I have no regrets. Good luck finding a laptop (other than the MBP) these days that doesnt have some of the "quality" issues you mentioned. Frankly, I'm tired of reading about people whining about this stuff. IMHO, Dell makes a better product than HP and perhaps Sony. Dell and HP are probably manufactured in adjacent factories in China anyway. Go figure.

People have the right to complain when they spend a lot of money and don't get what they expect. However, the amount of dissatisfied customers vs. satisfied customers is far less. I got my studio15 a week ago and it is top quality. There are going to be a few bad ones that make it out, that is the nature of the beast. This is true for all manufacturers. So don't think that switching to HP or Sony or any other brand is going to mean that you won't get a messed up box. The odds are in your favor that you will get a good system, no matter what company you buy from. So, give Dell another shot and I'm sure you will get a good system. If the mess up twice in a row then try someone else.

My Studio 15 is excellent...so I really don't think Dell "don't care" blah blah...obviously the majority of forum-posters are going to be complaining about something. You forget about the people who haven't had any problems ;)

    Good luck getting everything sorted!

Called them yesterday about the eSATA port and spent an hour on the phone with them. They tried just about everything under the sun (including the installation of an audio driver...) but couldn't make it work. They wanted to model of eSATA drive I was trying to connect, and when I emailed them back today and said I just wanted to return/exchange the laptop due to all of the problems I had with it, they agreed that was the best option, so the customer service people are supposed to contact me on Monday about getting a different laptop or a new Studio.

I don't see where the complaint was. I mean most other companies would try and screw you over. This is why I am waiting for dell. Because I know their customer service is friendly and they won't hassle me since I have already bought over 20 computer from them (or more i dunno my dad uses them for "business" or something). As long as they do what you asked I think that's great. Try working with buy.com and you'll worship people like dell.

??? the complaint is in crappy workmanship...and in my video I said "for now I would say not to purchase this laptop" and I said I would "revise my decision if the new one is up to my standards"...... so if you want to know what the complaint is..its crappy workmanship

I was thinking that in the first place, but then I figured "why put it on there if it's not supposed to work". I know it's a combo USB port, but why would you even bother to make it a combo if you're not going to enable the eSATA.

It's not my only reason for the need to return though. There are a lot of workmanship issues with the laptop as well, and a sleep mode problem. All in all Tech Support at Dell agreed returning it was the easiest. Customer Service is supposed to contact me on Monday with my options as far as exchanging or returning it, so I'll see whether I keep the Studio, upgrade to an XPS or switch to something else completely.

You are probably one of the few with problems with the laptop though. Maybe you are just really unlucky and got bad ones from dell. I mean all the other people who have ordered the laptop have been fine with it. Not saying that isn't a reason to go look at other companies. I personally wouldn't touch a dell until they at least get Centrino 2. The Sony Z, SR, T400, T500, Gateway 17 inch laptop are a LOT better than anything dell has to offer until they upgrade to Centrino 2.

the_bay_mafia, good to know I am not the ONLY one with such strict standards! It was ironic watching your video and seeing how thorough your inspection was (just the way I am ALL the time with what I buy) when most people don't even bother. Problem is when people don't bother, the computer could "degrade" later in the most unwelcome ways. Nice to see that.

Dell has the Dell Studio 1536 available through Walmart.com right now in blue, pink, and green colors. The one I believe to have the working eSATA port. All Dell did with the Studio 1535 was "pull an Acer" and put in things on the laptop (like a non functioning eSATA port) that doesn't work unless it is a different configuration of the same laptop. Saves money I suppose.

Hey, I finally got a chance to watch your vid' about the problems you were having with your S15....and oish.. Well, I am glad you are receiving a new one! That was a good detailed video BTW

I agree when you spend that amount of money on something..it should meet up to your own standards, and not be *sub-par*. ;)

I hope that you receive it on or before 10/1!!! ;)

I've had no problems whatsoever with my Dell Studio 15. I've had it for almost a month now.

    I love it too.
