Originally the power cord would not supply power. Wiggle the wire would produce power to the battery. I purchased a ac adapter thru ebay (not dell). When I boot up the computer it stops right after the dell logo and says that it has detected a 70 watt power supply. The choices are to continue booting with the F1 key or F2 to shut down the computer.

I looked at the adapter and it is rated for 20v 4.5 amps. The book says that is the dc cord has a grey band it is 790 watts and if it has a black band it is 70 watts. I know this being from another manufacture it might not be marked in this way. The seller says that the problem is the dc power jack. I am thinking if it is the dc power jack why the original ac adapter does supply that message.

    Any help appreciated.

Most likely you already have found the answer. If not, I'd be comparing Dell's specs to the AC adapter you have. My Dell an 8500 takes 19V 4.62amp 60 watt
