According to the dell website there is a 15% restocking fee if returning an open box item.

I've heard conflicting reports with regard to the restocking fee. So basically if I don't like the laptop after I use it and want to return it, will I be out 15%?

You can try talking to them to return without the fee.

    Btw, what laptop was it?

    Hey!

They have the right to charge you a 15% restocking fee, and will tell you that. But, they rarely do, and the cases of this happening to fellow peep's on the forum, have been *few and far between*.

I think in extreme cases they might...But, I wouldn't worry so..and just deal with that when, and if it were to happen to you! ;)

Thanks for the replies. Haven't bought anything yet, I just like to know the deal before buying.

Yeah...well returns are fairly easy, as long as it's w/in the 21 days of being invoiced ~ return for new replacement, or refund! :D

For the home user it is only if something is wrong with it that you can return it. The business ones have a no questions asked rule.

My recent experience with a return wasn't too good. Please see the post linked below:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=351769

Even though others have not had the restock fee assessed, I did, and my machine was defective. My crime was that I didn't spend hours with tech support trying to troubleshoot.

I think there is a good chance that you'd be charged the 15% from Dell Home or Dell Outlet if you simply don't like it and want to send it back.

Because it is written on the site that Dell can charge the fee, it is hard to be sure they will not.
