Hi i bought new Latitude laptop from Outlet store (my 3 laptop).
After 36days the screen showed some black bars so i did send it for repair and now i got email from dell, that the LCD is not covered in 2years limited warranty and i have to pay new screen.

Is this some kind of joke, that they charged me for warranty and now they dont repair broken screen (no physical damage) after having laptop home for 36days?
    Can they do it?

Black bars? Did it do it externally? LCD's minus physical damage should be covered by the standard warranty...? Did Dell tell you the reason why they denied your warranty coverage? Only thing I can think of is physical damage..

I have a similar crack and Dell still claims it's not covered under the limited warranty. I should purchase additional coverage in order to get the LCD covered. I am very unhappy and disappointed with this kind of services. If it's a physical damage outside, I would have accept the reasons, but it just cracked like that in between my routine usage. Now I have to pay extra 15% of the purchase price to replace the LCD. :(

Useless Dell.... I have recommended DELL to many of my colleagues... Now it's the opposite... Do not purchase the DELL Inspiron new models, there is a major defect in their LCD supplier. Just spend the extra $$$ to get a different brand(IBM/HP), long lasting laptop.

Sending something in for repair is never predictable, call them and request a parts-only dispatch for the LCD, which is a field-replaceable unit. You'll have to replace it yourself, but there should not be any problems as long as the LCD is not cracked or otherwise damaged.

Parts-only dispatch is standard procedure for systems that have ProSupport for IT, but it can also be requested for systems that have basic or mail-in warranties. I've replaced the LCD this way in an outlet E6320 with basic NBD warranty (user complained that colors were washed out).

I don't know if the fact that you've already sent it in will make a difference, but if they bring it up, re-state the fact that the screen was not physically damaged.

Sounds more like a GPU problem to me and besides, Dell SHOULD cover any defective parts so long as it is under warranty. Just yesterday I called in regarding a small lint or dirt particle trapped inside my screen and today Fedex is delivery it, along with a new DC Connector Jack. I opted to fix them myself because that's how I know I will have a computer that will be 'scratchless' after the fix. I don't understand why they turned you down.

Either you mean something else by "crack" than I do - or you are unreasonable. I have never seen a cracked LCD screen without massive physical force. And such is not covered under the standard warranty.

If you need accident coverage or theft coverage, these are available from Dell, too ("Complete Care"). Also you would have found that Dell is a lot more forgiving when you have an on-site service package.

I was adjusting the angle of my Inspiron 15r when the screen cracked. I have had the machine for one month, and have only used it lightly. The screen cracked under completely normal use, and yet dell customer service told me I must pay to fix it. I dont know how much it would cost, but I refuse to pay this company out of principle. I have no reason to believe that, once fixed, the laptop would be durable enough to withtand the small amount of pressure required to adjust the angle of the screeen. Thanks Dell!

It is best to find yourself a screen from a 'reputable' seller on ebay. Make sure the item is new and free of dead pixels.

Dell has never covered damaged screens under the basic warranty, its always been an optional coverage

as mentioned above, buy a replacement screen on ebay or from a place like and change it yourself, the service manuals are available on dells website.
