    Hello all,
I have also done a search but need some quick help. I purchased a used Dell Latitude D600 laptop last week at the local computer show. (mistake) It is for my daughter who is now in Phoenix in school. The laptop worked fine for a week with no problems until she arrived in Phoenix. The laptop screen now goes dark at the welcome screen. She can still see the XP background if you stare closely with a light. She has tried to reboot several times without success. She did tell me after the fact that the screen went dark once before at home but went back on and worked fine. It now goes dark at the welcome screen. I had a similar issue with a Panasonic C-28 and replaced the screen inverter. Does the Latitude work under the same principle? I am somewhat handy and can probably replace this one if that is the problem, and with some direction. Anyone else have this problem that can lend some assistance. She needs the laptop for school and would have to ship it back to Northeast Pa. for the repairs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Either the inverter is bad, or the CCFL backlight went out. I'm guessing the later is what happened.

If it is still under warranty you might be able to get Dell to fix it onsite, but other than that I might suggest you try to force a return on the D600 and getting another notebook if possible.

It is under warranty but the waarany is from the company I purchased it from. Problem is she is in Arizona and I am in NE Pa. The computer dealer is in NJ. There is a 3 month warranty but it will probably be a PITA. I would like to have at it myself to save the trouble of shipping it here then there. The inverster was easy to replace in the Panasonic. Is it as easy in the Latitude? Can you point me to a FAQ to do this repair...and maybe the backlight repair?

Thanks again for your quick response. Are Latitudes a POS?

bump...please help.. I have purchased a inverter and will replace that first, checking all the connections on the way. I have replaced a inverter on a Panasonic C-28 but no other experience. I dont have the laptop in front of me so could someone advise me on how to take the screen apart.
    Thanks so much,

    Kevin
