Depends on your price range and what you want to use the laptop for.

Latitude has a higher price but higher quality build and standard warranty / support option. If you can get a Latitude for the same price as an Inspiron you're likely better going with the latitude if it has the features that you want...but if you want such things as a glossy widescreen notebook you won't get that with a Latitude.

Latitude generally tend to be higher quality laptops. You can also get greater battery life on them, with their modular bay battery. I would go with the latitude. The D810 can be used for a pretty good gaming machine, with the 128 mb x600.

One other thing. Dell has been offering their Inspirons on their business and EPP sites and visa versa with the Latitudes. Also, consider the Outlet for Inspirons. I've got amazing deals there. For example, I picked up a Dell 9300 with X300 and DVD-R for $1000.

the $750 cant be beat, but i personally went with the latitude d610. it's more rugged than most inspirions and i can't complain. i upgraded to 2gb of ram pretty quickly, but the sonoma platform and nice 14.1" screen stacked up well against similarly spec'd t42's. anyhow, like i said, i couldn't be happier with my d610...
