Ok, this poll should be a little more useful than the last.

Again, if your order hasn't had anything done to it yet, don't post, but you can view the poll results. This allows you to post later should your order get canceled/delayed. Good luck and DEMAND $500 in reimbursement for the delay.

Also, for those who canceled, please look at this post as well to fill in more info:

Bad news, if your order is still in pre-production in within 3 days of shipping, you can expect 1-2 month extension on your shipping date. I finally got this out of their reps. I have 6 days until that hits me.

Nothing - ordered regularly and no delays yet. Then again, my estimate ship date isn't until August 22nd...

Mine has been in the "Build" stage since Friday or Saturday last week. It's supposed to ship in 10 days so we'll see how it goes.

Mine is still in Build stage (I haven't called in for awhile though -- like in the past 12 hours) with an estimated ship date of August 17th.

People are laughing at me cause of that... :-(

I think the fact that people with mid to late August ship dates are in build - along with the fact that some people are reporting being in build hours after ordering - shows that the status checker isn't reliable.
At least that's what I'm telling myself since I'm still in pre-production. just under 2 weeks till my shipping date, though so I'm not giving up hope yet.
If Dell starts missing ESDs they're going to lose a lot of customers. I hope they realize this.

Apparently 'build' doesn't actually mean build. It just means your payment method was approved and it's onto the next phase.

per dell's website, if your payment hasn't been approved you're order status is Pending.
"Upon approval of payment for your order, the order will be In Production. Production time includes obtaining the parts, assembly or build time, and shipping preparations/transit to the carrier. Shipping preparations will vary based on type of order and size."

So.. basically unless your order is cancelled or delayed you cant see the results of the poll? Probably should leave an option for third parties so that they don't select random poll choices just to see the results.

There are steps to the production process (Pre-Production, Knitting, Building, Testing, Boxing). You can usually obtain your status by calling the 1-800 order status line -OR- looking under "RECENT ORDERS" on the My Account page (you shouldn't have to click any links to get there).

believe me I've obsessed over this enough for the past few weeks that I know the stages of production.
I posted that information in response to chuck's assertion that
I was trying to show him that payment verification happens long before build status, it occurs while your order is Pending. Build stage is just that, the building of the laptop.

I've made several orders with Dell this year. They didn't used to show "pre-production" on the web status -- everyting was included in "in production." My guesstimate is that "pre-production" means having the order numbers for each part for your machine match an incoming shipment expected prior to your ESD, which would explain the "6 days" statement.

It seems fairly clear that the new model intro's this year caught Dell by surprise with the number of units ordered, and they didn't anticipate such a response. They're probably now at the mercy of their own suppliers, and from what I can see, the two biggies in extending ESD's have been CPU's (maybe 20% ;) and LCD's (seems to be the major boogieman).

The website only has Pending, In production, Changed and Canceled. Pre-production is a substage of In Production. You can only see which substage you're in if you add your order to you My Orders page or if you call the hotline.

Not so. My online status was "pre-production" for several days, then changed to"production" yesterday. The more detailed status is shown in your "my account" section.

I had an order placed on juin 27th with estimated delivery date of august 15.

This morning the order was cancelled and a new order appeared. This new order show an estimated ship date of september the 6th.

I called to know what happened. They told me that some part (couldn't tell me which one) was not available and they had to change the order. She said that the original order would not have been delivered before the date on the new one anyway and it wasn't changing anything.

I call BS on Dell CS. There's a limit on what I can endure as far as getting screwed. I cancelled my order and will get my second choice (a mac).

It's been fun looking at this forum everyday to see how things where progressing but I give up.

Hopefully all of you who ordered the M1330 will really enjoy it once you get it.

    Regards,

    Simon

Okay, so I just got off of Chat with an XPS Dell rep. He said (typed like an American) that most orders are currently in the build stage but they are waiting still waiting on a few parts to complete. I asked which parts but he would not give me that info. I also threatened to cancel and he didn't seem concerned as they did a week ago when I threatened...it appears they don't care anymore if we cancel.

I am going to swing by a Sony store this weekend and check out a few of their systems. I am working with $2000 for a laptop so I should be able to get a nice one. I really want the M1330 but waiting another 40 days until my ship date is just ridiculous. I am not mad at Dell for the wait time as my date hasn't changed, I am just mad they are selling a product without actually having any in stock or the products to produce them.

Although, if I do cancel my order with Dell, they will never receive another order from me or my family (I do all of the ordering for my family).

Yeah, that's one thing I think Dell should think about here. Who is ordering all the m1330s right now? We're all tech savvy of course. And what does that mean? That means we either do all the ordering for family or at least make recommendations and give help to those we know. Personally, between the laptops I've bought and recommended, I've made at least 5 laptop and 1 desktop sales for Dell so far (not including m1330). When those people need new PCs, I don't know if I'll be recommending Dell.

I cancelled my order. When I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago, the earliest delivery time was 9/11. When I called to cancel, I was told they could expedite, but wouldn't even tell me how much time that would save.

I am going to be happy with my Vaio SZ330 and ordered a couple of small mods for it this week.

So long Dell, don't know when I will be ready to order from you again.
