Recently when I put on my earphones or headsets it makes these static noises.

I have no clue why. Anyone know how to make this stop?

Its from a bad headphone jack layout. Yes many laptops have static.. but the 1520 has it really bad for many customers. Dell themselves have admitted in their internal powerpoint doc that its due to a bad layout on the MOBO. They have been working on a bios fix for months.. but nothing yet. Incidentally, a new leaked system.. the 1525/26 which looks like the successor to the 1520 could ship in a few weeks according to engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/20/dells-inspiron-1525-1526-leak-out-set-to-land-next-month/

It looks like the jacks are up front now on the 1525/26... thats a completely new layout.

Most likely, if you have the static on a 1500/1520 the best thing to do is bypass the jack with a express card SC or USB alternative SC. Dell has admitted a MOBO swap does not fix this.. its not probably what you wanted to hear but there are tons of threads addressing this going back to the june launch.

Could you explain this better to me? What would I have to do? On my Vostro 1500 the static is unbearable...
