I did a clean install of vista not changing any partitions. Installed all drivers and dell media center from vista. The installation went ok but I am unable to start dell media center from within windows. The house button doesn't work. the media center button does however work when the computer is switched off and loads DMC.

Am I missing anything? I read somewhere that we need dell quickset as the house button is a shortcut button but I can't find any settings for changing the configuration of the buttons from within quickset. please help!

did you start your clean install by following the instructions included with your media center CD? That gets installed first, whether you are wiping the partitions or not.

But I thought that that wasn't needed as I'm not wiping out the DMC partition. Guess I'll have to reinstall the lot again.

Ok, let me get this right. There's 3 different types of media center?
    1. Dell media center running from a fresh reboot
    2. Dell media center from Vista (which is activated with the house button)
    3. Windows Media center - similar to Windows MCE

The house button should run the DMC from vista right?

I went through it once myself and then I decided sometimes it's best to actually read the directions. :p ;)

I did a clean installation of Vista also but did not wipe any partition. The Media Direct works after I re-install from the CD on Vista. Before that, I re-install all the OS tools and Notebook software from the resource CD. I would suggest to re-install the Media Direct last. Now I have everything working. By the way, don't forget to download the Divx Player/Codec.

Yes. Everything works as it should be after my complete re-installation (except that the Network Assistant is gone).
