Dell media remote not found in studio 15

Hi everyone,
I have just registered but i have been looking around in these discussion threads for a couple of weeks now. I have seen some posts about people having found their remote packaged seperately but i can't seem to find mine.The laptop was ordered from the US Dell website and before I recieved the laptop I had asked a Dell Rep by using Dell Chat if I would recieve the remote since back when I ordered it wasn't an option in the travel section. The representative said that i would surely recieve the remote but all I got was a piece of plastic, it didn't even have the sticker on like some others had.
Do you think it could be hidden somwhere else?
And if you would like any spesific pictures of my Grafite Grey Studio 15, feel free to ask.

pictures should be nice also,have you look in express card slot?sometimes it is already there

hey congrats on your new lappy... could you plz post some pics of your Studio 15, because i'm thinking of buying one myself, and just wanted to see some more detailed pics than the ones i've seen... thanks, and let us know if you get your remote. also, do you mind posting some pics that would sort of showcase the viewing angles of the screen?

btw we don't have coke cans where i live but we have bottles and standard cans of other beverages, i'll se what i can do, don't worry

I live i Malta, Europe but i had the laptop sent to a relative who lives in the USA, she got me the laptop last thursday when she came for vacation

 

ah,malta!cool place!and u dont have coke there?

 

We do have coke here, we're not thar primitive
we just haven't adapted cans yet, and most importantly, i ran out of coke on saturday

The remote doesn't come standard - It is in the "Multi-Media Accessories" category and it is named "Dell Travel Remote Control, IR" $14.

 

That's the same thing i said when i first didn't find it but then the Dell rep told me that even if i hadn't selected it, i would have recieved it because i had ordered it before that option was available.

On a 17" laptop I would see a use for it but on a 15" not so much. Just extand your arm if you really want to open the Media Center, your laptop can't be that far.

 

Yeah, but it's just nice to have instead of a useless piece of plastic... It should come standard. I ordered one when I re-ordered my Studio 15.

 

It came standard in my friend Hp laptop, it has been a lil heavier useless piece of plastic since.

But thinking about it twice, with the HDMI output it could indeed become useful... once or twice.

 

that's exactly what i had in mind but even iif it's not that necessarry, i was still kind of sad that the dell people told me i would get one but i didn't. I don't even use the media direct anyway I'm still glad i got this laptop

how do you know if the expresscard remote is included in your config?

 

When you're viewing your "cart", choose "View Details".

 

that category isn't there...

 

Let's start from square one, click here,
choose the 2nd tab " Add My Software & Accessories",
scroll the icons at the bottom to the right until you see the " Multi Media Accessories".
Click it and that's where you find the travel remote control.

so i talked to the dell rep too and he said that it doesnt come with the studio. so you have to buy it seperately for 15 when you order it or 21.99 when you buy it seperately. i just ordered the studio in graphite grey also. how is it? is it glossy? i didnt get the other colors cause they werent glossy. could you take a picture and tell me if its glossy or not

 

It's glossy...if you look around you'll find like 4 people who have posted pics of their graphite studios.

It seems that some people have got the dell media remote and tohers haven't with their Studio 15.
On the Dell India website, the remote and ear buds come in standard with the Studio 15 and the newly released Studio 14.
I can't get a clear answer on Dell chat if it does or does not come with it.
So those in the US who recently (December 08) got their Studio 15, please confirm if it came with the Media remote or not, and if it did, did it come standard or how you added it to your list.
Btw. It is the new remote, the black one on the link below that I am referring to.

I am getting a new Studio 15 in about a week. Hopefully mine comes with the remote. What do you meed by "it didn't even have the sticker on"? I have never seen a sticker on a PC Card protector (that is what the piece of plastic is, it protects the internals from dirt and dust).

I found the solution! The reason that you didn't get it is because you didn't select it! Go to the Dell website and build a Studio 15. Once you are in the "Software" section go to the "Remotes and Media Control". Right there is the IR Remote for $15 that fits into the PC card slot! It seems as though Dell tries to conceal this item... I don't know why...

I went back and looked at the different starting point when build the Studio. If you choose the Good or Better, you do get the option under Software for the Remote. But when you go through Best or New Centrino Duo (I did the latter), the option is not there.

Does that mean it comes standard on these two configuratiion or there is something that has been left out. Whoever I get on chat and I ask to add the remote, they, I think add the old one (the white one). I checked it when I saved it in my cart and check the configuration details and SKU number.

Any clarification on these would help.
