So it really doesn't have F keys?
So I guess it's coming with XP, if the Windows key on the keyboard is any indication. No Linux love?
Dell has really taken a liking in their "thinner-in-front, thicker-at-the-back" design. -
How so? If they spend the excess that could have been spent on LED on other components that bolster the specification or just omit LED altogether to keep costs down I don't really see a problem.
Just because LCD has been succeeded doesn't automatically make the technology useless. I'm sure there's also a lot of excess stock to shift prior to going full LED anyway. What better way to do so than in an extremely low cost Dell.
Sure LED is better on the battery, but LCD is better on the pocket (ours and theirs)... and it's not like you'll be using this thing for watching reams of hi-def movies or for content creation beyond that which is entirely text based.
I would be entirely unsurprised to see the base configuration (the one with the price tag they actually market) housing your bog-standard vanilla LCD panel. -
buddy, it's pretty simple! it has a LED then will be bought, it hasn't, it won't!
MSI Wind costs 4-500 and already has Atom and LED, so I guess Dell has to comply if they want to keep up their market share... LED is not only better on battery, but indirectly lower on heat and weigth... so hail to LEDs !!

Ah, I just saw the thread...
I opened thread about it and Acer in Review and News subforum.
Never mind. Peace.
In late summer there will be huge competition in so called netbook market (ASUS vs MSI vs HP vs Dell vs Acer). It's bad timing for buying anything. Who bought Eee 700 - good for him, but now it's bad to buy. -
I think it's a 12 incher and looks very sleek and nice. I would consider getting one in the future as a replacement for my old HP...
-
Nice rhyming there.
...and very true indeed. -
Too small to be a 12" screen, and I can't see Dell making this any larger than 10" because of the market it's aimed at.
-
I'm hoping for 8 to 9", I already have the m1330 for everything a larger screen requires, now I just want portability.
-
Hope something like that gets released here also
-
if I didnt have my 12 in powerbook, I would be all over this.
-
The m1330 has a large screen and is not portable???
-
Portable as in take everywhere, like a cell, blackberry, ipod, gps, all of which I am hoping to replace with this dell.
-
Quoted from Slashdot who quoted from god knows where....
"Here are the specs for the Dell Mini Inspiron: Atom 1.6 GHz, 3 USB ports, Ethernet, Card reader, Kensington lock, Adapter socket, Mic/line-out, VGA port, screen resolution at 1280×800. Scheduled to be released before the end of June 2008. It costs less than $500."
I'm all over this like a fat kid on a smartee!!! -
I like it! I'll buy one if it makes it over here in USA.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Most of those specs should be true, since we have seen the photos. The only thing that might not be true is the screen resolution, it might be 1024X600 like other mini notebooks -
Oh I'm all over this new one. Wish it were around now.
and replace my vibrating 1330. -
well maybe at that resolution could be a 11-12in screen... and if it's not even a LED screen.. I'm outta looking other choices like Wind or Aspire One
-
Why no Bluetooth, 20GB SSD, or internal 3G HSDPA options...
Of course, they can be extras, but at least make them optional! -
Picky, picky
If you want all that, then go with the m1330 or m1530!
-
I just want bluetooth
-
i just want a battery that doesnt die in 2-3 hours, but i doubt thats gonna happen. i mean its cool that its small and all but it really bewilders me why none of these ultraportables seem to have better battery life than a full-sized notebook. argh.
-
I am with you on this.
-
Probably because they have smaller batteries and also they're using less sophisticated processors that can't run as efficiently. Did you ever think of that? Huh? HUH?!?! (I just made that all up, BTW.)
Seriously, are you guys REALLY planning on using a 10" laptop for over 3 hours? If so, why? -
Guess you've never been on a long flight before.
-
If this did have a battery that could last 5 hours I can guarantee that by the fourth my fat fingered frustration would leave a Minspiron shaped mark on the nearest wall. Haha.
How long before we see a member try and create the 'The Oddicial Mibspirob Owmerts Lounge'?
-
Guess you've never been on a commercial plane before.
Hint: Power sockets -
Exactly. Notice I specifically said "TEN INCH LAPTOP." I use my M1530 for six or seven hours at a time every day ...but I'd use a 10" one maybe for 1-2 hours TOPS.
-
I still want this. like now..LOL
-
That's what she sa --
...uh ... -
9 Cell battery lasts 5 hours in a M1530, bring two and that covers Cross Country flights
Less QQ? -
It won't be much good on a flight without a DVD drive, unless you play a lot of solitare.
-
lots of dvd/divx movies on hard drive, USB stick or SSD.. so who needs a dvd drive anymore?
-
Not all commercial planes have power sockets on them.
-
If you the flight time is 5+ hours then I'm about 95% sure that they do unless you fly with Air Cuba or sumat like that.
In short: It's not a problem -
Actually it is >.< JAL/Aircanada and most major airlines dont have them. You are lucky if you have them in buisness class. American based airlines tend to have them the most but not always
-
In short: you need to realize that you're wrong.
Speaking from experience with Canadian flights on Air Canada and WestJet, there are NO power adapters. -
Yeah, I have flown almost every major airline and the whole power thing really is a hit or miss. It's very much a problem.
But hey, I saw USB ports on my last Qatar Airways flight to the Middle East! -
This makes a lot of sense if you are traveling a lot.
The major issue now is also weight, as I believe the carry on limit on European flights are 7kg. And they are enforcing it strictly.
BTW, no, MOST planes still do not have power sockets. Possible if you fly business, but in sardine class, its hit and miss.
Only the newer 777 that I've flown have them. The older long haul 747s and 340s usaully don't have them...you'd be lucky to even have your own LCD screen...European carriers are the worst (KLM/Lufthansa/Air France).
The 14 to 22 hrs hours is a lot of time I spend onboard. I'd go numb if I didn't keep myself bz, at least just doing some work. Unfortunately they still dont make endurance "flight" batteries....
Its a nice change for the TGV to have them...a good 1 hour charge before I arrive at the office. -
Very few (if any at all) economy class cabins provide power sockets. All first and business class do (bar some old planes) and it's hit or miss with premium economy.
Useful website is seatguru.com which shows airplane seat charts including best and worst seats and power supply sockets.
