    I am trying to see how the models fit into each category.

    Is it correct to assume Inspiron is Consumer level, with XPS being the enthusiast line, with Vostro and Latitude for business?

    What is considered the most advanced, multimedia type in the Inspiron line?

    Inspiron = bargain
    Studio = multimedia
    XPS = performance
    Vostro = lower tier business
    Latitude = higher tier business

    not sure what you mean by best multimedia type among Inspirons. the 17" has the best GPU option

    The main difference between them is the GPU options and design. The CPUs, RAM, HDD options, and many of the basic components are the same in all of them. The XPS models have some metal on them, where as the others are all plastic. Some Vostro's are just black versions of the silver Inspirons.
