I have the exact same machine. You won't have switchable graphics if you don't have two graphics cards showing up in device manager(correct me if I'm wrong)

Personally from what I've heard its sort of buggy and I don't know how much it saves - energy/heat wise - the 5650m is a cool running card which downclocks anyways when not gaming down to 100 core/150 memory from 450/800.

I 've had my dell for 6 months now and the CPU doesn't go over 63 under very heavy load and the GPU's gaming temps are rarely over 70 unkless you play Hydrophobia, which looks like crap but still generates a hell of a lot of heat.

Back on subject, I'm sure if it doesn't show up in device manager as ATI AND intel card, then you probably won't have it.

    regards alex

ATi has stated for months that eventually they would implement some sort of switchable graphics, but that isn't the case. There is no switchable graphics as of now (Intel + ATi GPU). Plus with all the headaches of switchable graphics, thank your lucky stars you don't have it.

I would seriously suggest a repaste, though that require flipping over the motherboard (Service Manuals available at support.dell.com and entering in your service tag). Also clean out your fan, heatsinks, heatfins.

    Hello,
I got the same problem like you before with my n5110,
But I found a way to solve it, people said its because of Turbo boost thing, You can try this way

Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Click "Change Plan Settings" on your current power option > Change Advanced Power Settings > Scroll Down and click on "Processor power management" > Maximum processor state > change the "On Battery" and "Plugged In" from 100% to 99% and save

    Try playing your game now.

They're very hot temps, usually idle mine'll undulate between 44-57, and just keep going up and down until the fan brings it down.

Are you sitting it on your bed or putting it on anything fluffy or dusty? because it'll suck that right up and clog up your comp. Try propping up your laptop on two medium thick books, making sure not to block any vents underneath.

but there's something wrong there, how hot's your CPU?

to Kooda: The turbo boost only applies to the CPU his temps were for his GPU, but I am curious what temps you're processor is running at

Yes, you got the point. But I dont know why its working perfectly fine now after I change the power option setting.
Whenever I play games, it wont goes to 80, before its overheating.

I'm not criticising, just logically it wouldn't seem to make sense, Tony's laptop is the same as mine and he would get an extra .27ghz increase, I wouldn't think it would cause all that heat. especially on the GPU, my CPU runs 15C cooler than my GPU and my laptop was a refurb so it was put together and tested by a guy sitting at a desk, I doubt he changed the paste, but its definitely tested more than assembly line laptops.

And you shouldn't have to compromise performance because its overheating, but if it works, then it does save alot of hassle

@Kooda, I have to apologize for being a little cynical. I tried the 99% trick and playing bulletstorm, my CPU dropped from 57/54 to 49/44 under load, that is amazing.

Also I noticed alot less stuttering while playing as well. Do you think the turbo boost is a bit too dynamic switching between high and low load and thats what creates the stuttering?

Anyways, I take my hat off to you Kooda, superb

    regards Alex

Edit: found out why the heat decreases so dramatically, my wattage goes from 26.16 max to 25.00, 98% takes a i5-460m down to 2.4ghz and 21.23volts, for the voltage decrease and relatively small performance decrease its definitely worth it.
