Has anyone tried it?Is it any good?Is it backward compatible with the old b/g wi-fi?
-
-
It just came out, so I don't think anyone has gotten a laptop with it yet.
Yes, it is backward compatible with b/g -
Wow, it's backward compatible,50% more range,20% more speed definitely worth the upgrade,it's upgradable through express card right? Are there any cons?
-
The con is the only place you can use it now is at home as long as you buy the Draft N router as well.
Another Con is you aren't gauranteed it'll work with the final N spec when its released. Which means you could be stuck at G speeds on incompatible networks.
Also, you'll find very few N networks right now. Heck, there are almost still more B networks than even G still.
So, imo, the upgrade isn't worth it. -
Jeffrey is right. This is such a new technology, very few routers are compatible with it, so unless you really need the extra boost & range at home, wait a few months.
That is just my estimate. I don't know how long it is going to take for there to actually be N-hotspots. -
Once again, you won't really take advantage of the "pre-N" technology unless you have a pre-N router. The popular one is made by Belkin.
-
Trust me, pre-N products are suffering from serious interference issues right now, and many bought them to discover they are pretty bad. Stay with G and buy a seperate card later on if you're that interested in the N standard.

I just got an e1505 with 802.11n ... i figured why not since it would be compatable with b and g anyway. the same night i went to circut city and
got the belkin N1 router (buck fifty $) only bought it because i was giving my 3yr old lynksys to my girl so i could surf at her house. setup was easy...i was
very impressed with range ( @ twice as far as old lynksys ). streamed some movies from my desktop ( felt like it was playing right off my laptop ) couldnt do that with old router. so i think if your in the market for one go for it. i just hope that firmware will be avail if 802.11n is ever finalised. belkin N1 gets two thumbs up from me -
The 802.11 worked just fine for me with my old 802.11b Netgear router.
