Dell notebook delays extend into November

Dell's now confirmed Inspiron notebook delays may extend as late as November, according to companies within Taiwan retail channels. Although Dell has admitted having problems with the quality of the multi-colored paint schemes on the lids of its XPS M1330 and Inspiron portables, the Texas-based PC maker is said to be encountering enough trouble that shortages could last until October or November -- significantly damaging the company's sales in the all-important holiday season.
A large part of the challenge may be due to Dell's need to adjust to a more deliberate manufacturing process, according to the report. The company has previously shipped nearly all of its systems in a single color and has often relied on colored faceplates to personalize systems. Veteran multi-color notebook makers such as Sony have refined their processes but still produce fewer colors, with the VAIO CR selling in half as many colors as the eight Dell has offered in its first attempt.

Dell itself has declined to say when it would completely resolve the situation and has only said that it wanted to speed up deliveries of Inspirons and XPS systems "as soon as possible." The company has been struggling as of late with declining share versus its main rival HP as well as smaller builders.

"The company has been struggling as of late with declining share versus its main rival HP as well as smaller builders."

All the customers who are canceling their delayed orders or not even dealing with this mess in the first place are apparently having an effect. See, no class action suit is needed. Just get a hundred bucks in compensation and let the declining stock wake this company up.

So, for anyone who ordered a Dell Inspiron 1720 in a Black matte color, what has your wait time been in the last month or so?

Should I order now or wait?

If they charged you when the order ships, I would definetley get now, but sadly that's not the case, heh. Don't want too pay off my laptop in a month and then have too wait another month for it too ship.

also, any other company's that offer built in verizon wireless and blu-ray?

I guess even the cancellations including mine can't even make Dell produce them faster.

Didn't think I was ordering myself a birthday present. Sure hope it comes before November. I've accepted the fact that it won't come in September, but if it doesn't come until November.....

It seems like Green and Yellow are the two "jinx" colours. People who ordered a long time after us got their laptops already because they choose the other colours. Darn. Oh well, I've cancelled already.
