    Hey all!

    Has anyone seen this??

    Linky: http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/fasttrack-systems/fs.aspx?refid=fasttrack-systems&s=dhs&cs=19
Looks like it only applies to:
    Mini 10v, Inspiron 15, Inspiron 537, Inspiron 13...

You can *Customize* a little bit, mainly accessories, and the warranty chosen.

So, if you need something quick...it would work well I suppose.

    Thoughts?

    Cin ;) :)

This is a pretty good idea in my opinion. There are times where you need some basic and fast. I was looking at the 10v a few weeks back and saw this option.

You think this is Dell shipping returned unopened and cancelled orders that would normally go into their outlet (basically all but scratch & dent)?

I would hope not, because I would assume that those would fall under the *Previously Ordered New* items for sale at the Outlet.

Who knows, maybe..it is. It's for those that need something fast, don't want to mess with configuring, etc ~ And, another way for Dell to make more money! :)

I wonder if they will expand into other models eventually, though? Like the SXPS 1340/1640, Studio 15, etc..

I would hope not too, but technically those machines are brand new so Dell are not doing anything wrong. Plus it would explain the lack of customisation available etc.

Be interesting to see if it impacts outlet stock of non scratch and dents.

No, these are definitely not outlet items. They're mass produced, constantly produced, items like you'd see at best buy with a set configuration.

Yeah, I don't think so, either..I think these are more so..*in stock, and ready to ship with your order*! :D

I still want to see the expansion of this into other Dell Models, I bet it happens! ;)

I very much doubt they're outlet style as it would be sooo illegal, and dell would get raped for it if they were found out.

Nope, not true. They'd only get their wrists slapped if they were not new machines. Technically, a machine that has been built but the order cancelled is still a new machine. Heck, even one that has been returned unopened is still new.

Let's look at it this way. You go into your local computer store and say to the clerk "I'd like that one please". He doesn't have it in stock, so he orders it. In the mean time you come back in and cancel it. They will still sell it as new.

Likewise, if you had ordered it, taken it home, then without opening it, you brought it back in for a refund, the store would sell it as new again.

No law being broken there now is there.

Yeah, I imagine these systems are unopended, sealed in original packaging returns.

That being the case, as someone said before, Dell isn't doing anything wrong. As long as the price is adjusted accordingly depending on the configuration, of course.

I think this is a great idea, especially if you need something cheap and fast.

What I expect is happening is that it'll probably be a combination of unopened or cancelled orders with more mass production units, of the type they sell via retail outlets.

You guys are making this much more complicated then it is. Dell has always been CTO, but recently they have become more retail to better compete. They have sold general configurations at Staples and Best Buy and now they are doing the same thing just on their site. These aren't cancelled or returned systems as those go to the Outlet. It is much like the Outlet though in that they have a large stock of these basic configed machines ready to ship out when someone orders.
