I've seen many times recently reference to returning a Dell system within 30 days... well I thought I would mention that they changed it in April and it's now only 21 days. Just a little FYI for people shopping right now (like me!)

That's good to know! Thanks for sharing that with us. Although I'm disappointed Dell would do that.

This is bad news.
I just read the details and the 21 day clock starts the date on the invoice, which is usually the day the product is ordered. Thus if there is any delay in configuring/building or shipping, the 21 day warranty may expire before you even get the darn notebook!

Wow, even more terrible news. What ever happpened to Dell's customer support???
-
That can't actually be true. I think they mean invoice on the package which should be printed day of shipping. That still screws you out of a few more days though.

edit - didn't read above reply. nevermind!
This does suck though. -
hmm, for a positive spin on Dell, they called me today to ask me how my Inspiron 9100 was doing after buying it a couple of months ago. Of course, they also tried to sell me an extended warranty, training classes and a whole bunch of other crap under the guise of caring about the consumer...but all the same, I guess they remembered/know me.

Sorry but the above is wrong.
The date that the 30 or 21 days starts is the day it ships.
Not the day it was ordered.
And many people in the past, were able to build their machine right before that 30 day time period and if they could build it for cheaper, they would get a check cut for the difference.
I tried it and they said I had to return the unit and buy another.
But I know a guy and his dad that each did this.
Thats pretty good customer service if you ask me.
21 days from the DAY IT SHIPS!!!!! -

it only took 4-5 days to get to me and i thought htat was pretty good, but now that return period is only 14 or 15 days. thats as bad as futureshopes 14 day return policy on computers.. really not good.
costco has a 6 month return policy! thats insane!

In UK it's only 7 days, so it's still better!

Do you think costco.com that has dell will honor dell in that 6 month period, I wonder if they are authorized dealer for dell. they are not authorized dealer some of the goods sold there that's why a liberal warranty .

This is my take on the whole Dell customer service. I truly feel Dell still has one of the top customer services around. It's just that how big Dell has become compaired to other companies like alienware or voodoo. Dell is the largest suppliers of personal computers in the US. Just think of all the complaints they handle each day. I see other companies advertise that they have better customer support then Dell, I would hope so if you are doing 1/3 of the business that Dell is!! Lets be realistic and give them a little slack.

Dell still offers 30day return here in Canada. Maybe there's a snow factorial in there somewhere, I dunno.
Dell only giving 21 days for returns now
