That isn't true. Vostros can be purchased by anyone, but you need to do it by calling in to the "Small Business" section or go to their website.

I didn't even know about vostros till the CSR offered me that instead of the inspiron 1720 I wanted. I mentioned nothing about being in business, in fact, I was enquiring about student discounts. lol.

it depends on the csr. for government purposes dell isnt supposed to sell to a non business. that said some just make up a personal business and call it their own name. or you could make up your own origional business and have fun with the name and get a good laugh out of the csr. they just need something to type into the spot on the form. You can lie and its ok :)

Yep, I tried it myself and it worked. ;) I just don't understand why Dell does it this way. What if we just want a more durable notebook!? Lenovo and HP don't ask, why Dell, why?

Maybe it's to make it sound exclusive when it's not?

They'll need a business name.. I guess it's a required field. It doesn't matter that it's not an actual business, they don't care. So you might want to spend a few minutes thinking up a name for your "business".

There's more money selling 2 $1000 laptops to a 'consumer' (2 laptops that break down/wear out prematurely) versus 1 $1500 laptop to 'business'.

Thats why Dell et al don't push the Latitude line to 'consumers', even though such often represents better overall long-term value through the use of higher quality and longer-lasting components.

That's crazy--and not true, at least here in the U.S. My Mother in Law wanted a latitude, so we ordered her one from Dell's Small Business web site. They did require a company name, so I just put her name in as the compnay name. The latitude arrived at her house about a week later.

    dordale :)
