Just received email that my 1745 will be delayed. Originally, it was supposed to have been delivered by 12-22-09, but it's been pushed back to 12-31-09.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

The blue color option and 1080p screens have also been removed from the dell store as an option on the i7 Studio 17.

That has no affect on orders already placed, and scheduled for delivery.

I'm just adding to the information that those items were removed from the dell site.

They don't have any affect on orders scheduled for delivery? You just said that the order that you had scheduled for delivery was delayed. Most of the i7 (I realize you have a core 2 dou ordered based on your signature) have been delayed and if you tried to add the blue color option as well as the 1080p screen, your order was being delayed till February per dells store as recent as yesterday. Obviously dell does not have enough stock to meet demand, are delaying purchases, and taking items off their site for customization so they do not fall even further behind.

Meanwhile HP can get me a customized computer delivered to me by christmas >_>

That's cool. I wasn't aware of the Blue color delaying orders.

I wouldn't go with HP. Why? Because you can't get a Windows 7 Re-installation CD to reinstall the O.S. I like Zeroing the Hard Drive, and then Reinstalling the OS once a year. You don't get the OS CD with HP. This alone...is the very reason I'll never buy one. I wouldn't want to restore a computer to years ago, and then have to wipe everything off it - just to update it.

Actually you can get that I believe, just have to pay $20 during configuration. Reason I did not go with DV7t were mainly three-fold.

    1. Display. I wanted 1080p resolution and Dell Studio 1080p display is really nice. If you don't mind 1600x900 display, HP is not bad.
    2. Graphics card. ATI 4650 is a bit faster then GTS 230 in the HP.
    3. Backlit keyboard. Yes, it's not a deal breaker, but a nice option nevertheless.

HP does have what I think more solid build quality and much less flex on the keyboard. I would imagine it's also couple hundred $$ cheaper.

It's most likely part-specific to your model, or similar models.

I ordered an Inspiron 15z on 12/10, originally was given an estimated delivery date of 12/28, and it arrived today on 12/18, 10 days early.

SGMD1, could you post your impressions of your 15z? I can't find any reviews on this laptop. Any pictures would also be appreciated. :)

Not sure if you want to go this route but I've been in the habit of buying from Dell's Outlet the past few years, prices are much lower and I haven't had one problem with any of the laptops or desktops I purchased there. Actually I'm writing this on a new/refurb 1545 I purchased last week, purchased it on the 15th it was at my home on the 18th.
If you have something particular in mind patience is the key, just use the filter to get the specs as close as possible then just look at each one until you find the one you want. This is "exactly" what I wanted(Midnight Blue, Core 2 Penryn, 4 gig 800 DDR2, X4500MHD graphics(been problems with the GeForce graphics), Bluetooth, DVDrw, Cam, free shipping plus free Windows 7 upgrade. Just a thought if your worried that they might push the delivery date back again.

I really don't mind them pushing the order back...as long as they get it right.
I believe the reason my 1745 is being delayed is...because they may not have the WD Black series in stock. Someone there told me they don't currently have any, and wasn't for sure if they would get them back. I can't imagine any computer manufacturer NOT offering Western Digital hard drives. Dell know's from my account that I will not accept a laptop with Seagate Hard Drives. There's a long history with Dell and me involving Seagates.

Did anyone's Studio Laptop come with a WD "Black" 7200rpm series drive? Or did anyone here get their hard drive replaced with the WD Black series? I really need to know.

I ordered a 1745 on 11/12 with an ESD of 12/04. It had a Intel Duo T9600, 900p display, 1 GB Raedon, 500 GB HD, 4 GB Ram, plus most of the small upgrades like facial rec and backlit keyboard. It also had a custom design. The ESD was delayed until tomorrow, but as of five minutes ago it is still in the "build" stage, so it probably won't make it. I have now waited 40 days for the computer. I have had bad luck with HPs in the past or I would have already ordered a Dv7... I can get a much better configured one for the same price. I emailed the president of Dell three days ago with no reply, and if I don't have anything to go on by Wednesday, I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Whiskey, we have no choice but to be patient. You and I both ordered our Studios at a very busy time. (You = 11/12; Me = 11/25)

You made the right choice by getting the Dell over the HP. At least Dell will send you the Win 7 CD that allows you to reinstall it when you need to. HP doesn't do this. Instead...they have the D:/ drive designated as the "Restoring" feature, and allows you run a system "Back up" on multiple CD's or DVD's. Problem with that is...when you use them a year from now, you'll have to remove all that junk to update to the newest product.
Who wants all those registry keys, and ghost files/folders from programs that's been uninstalled. It's always better to do a FRESH install... and then install updated programs and drivers. ;)

Ginuwine actually HP gives you the option to purchase the Windows 7 CD for $19. Sure it should be included, but it is available. HP did also promise me my system would be shipped in 8 days, and I had a $500 off coupon (that is probably no longer good). I do really like my computer (or at least the concept of it) but I absolutely need a computer by 1/04. I believe I have been patient, and also feel that Dell should have notified me of the real wait time when I purchased my computer, because now a lot of my other options have been exhausted. I will probably wait for them to ship this computer, but that may be the end of my business with Dell. I have never had a problem like this with a company, ever... let alone one that has $1800 of my money.

Also, to this day they haven't been able to tell me WHY it is delayed. If it was something I could change, perhaps I could have gotten my computer earlier. I got a part number from an email today (J503P) but I have no idea what that means, and nothing turns up from a Google search. I am 75% sure they made that up. Anyway, they claim that's what is holding up my computer and it will be there on 12/25.
