I ordered my XPS 1530 from the outlet last Monday. Didnt hear anything for a week so phoned up today (no customer service at weekends).
Apparently my card didnt go through (couldnt tell me why). They should have told me via e-mail and phone according to the rep but didnt for some reason. Anyway gave him my card details (same card) and all OK.
Now estimated delivery date isnt until next week and my order has gone "into production". The rep told me their were 4 orders waiting before me.
I thought these outlet computers were returns. If so why do they need to be "produced". Very confusing.

I thought that as well... When I bought a rig for my ex-gf's parents... It does go through a build process - WHY??? - I have no idea...

I phoned up Dell and was told by the rep that "in production" actually means the product is being tested though not quite sure why it wasnt tested prior to being sold rather than after but there you go
Don't know whether my moaning made any difference (doubt it) but its now been despatched with an ETA of tommorrow. Heres hoping I get a decent screen! -
hey let me know what screen u get. I have noticed that dell doesnt specify the screen type in the outlet specs.

Laptop came today. Everything seems okay. All the cases etc included and laptop is as new.
Did have a problem with the internet not working and after an hour and half spent on the phone to sky phoned Dell and despite the annoyling long 15 minute wait the technical support was actually very good and managed to sort the problem.
The screen is an AOU. Havent really had a chance to have a proper look but from first impressions it seems fine. Very bright, excellent viewing angles and very sharp. It is very different from my old one and in fact the other Dell in my household. I did a side by side comparison:
Acer Travelmate: Matte screen. Far inferior in terms of brightness, colours and viewing angles but I am used to it and actually quite like it.
Dell Inspiron (about 2 years old). Doesnt seem as bright and the whites are sort of yellow in comparision to this one. Not as sharp. Did a check and this is a samsung screen (though in the past I have always been impressed with this screen compared to my Acer). -
The in production is just the way their system works. It should ship out the same day you order it if early enough. -
Update on the screen. Althought bright and sharp with good colours theres a definate layer of grain. Makes the whites not solid and is actually really annoying. Now thinking of returning it.

I ordered from the outlet early last wed morning, it seemed like my card wasnt going to go through because I checked the address and for some reason it was wrong. So I called them and they said everything cleared anyway, and my order was shipped that evening and is arriving tomorrow..
What brand is the screen on yours? Samsung or was taht your old laptop's
Mines LG philips so I'm hoping it will be better -
Ordered mine yesterday afternoon. Chose next business day shipping ($70!
) and they said it should be shipped today or tomorrow. I hope it ships today because if not, then it will only get here on Monday. That makes me feel like I didn't get my money's worth
.
Status: In Production. As far as I can tell it's been in production for at least 5 hours. Damn you Dell, you claim it is "ready to ship". Liars!.
