Dell sucks anyway. Go check out the HP website or look for ASUS machines.

    Wow man, that sucks.

    ASUS it is then ;)

    What's your price range?

The ASUS F50SV-X1 is a formidable machine with that special ASUS feel and quality for around $800.

Look up the G50VT-X6. I got mine for $1150 and it runs Crysis, 1680x1050 on medium-high settings at 35fps.

I've never heard of any soft-shelled laptops...

Heh, Dutch Ben has emigrated to kinder climates.

Incidentally, dutch ben used to be a call centre monkey in the distant past @ dell amsterdam, kinda promised myself back then I would never buy from dell, but here i am now thinking about buying one.

Sigh, the more research I do the more difficult it is to make a decision

I would hardly class it as discrimination that Dell does not have an outlet in your country. There could be many reasons for this; but if you are concerned then take it up with Dell or some official trading body.

Stay on-topic in here; keep brand bias to yourself. It doesn't help anyone.

Ok, it's too bad that Dell doesn't have a outlet in Australia! :(
Maybe, someday they will..you never know.

I found this, do you have access to the Australia Dell EPP?
You can get some good savings thru EPP! ;)

    Here is the linky:

Just a thought for you! ;)

So explain to me how anyone else in this thread is helping him (besides Cin)?

I at least am trying to offer him alternatives, seeing as how with Dell he'd be stuck.

That's how, you are not helping in that the poster wanted to know why there was no Dell in Australasia, not your opinion on whether Dell is a good brand or not.

In any case, I do not know why there is no Dell outlet in Australasia. As I said, it could be many many reasons. Why not ask Dell themselves?

Without knowing the OP's notebook requirements and preferences, it's not quite appropriate to throw out any brand or model. Since you're quite fond of Asus, I can tell you that Asus can not provide the same customer service as Dell business CS, nor does Asus offer any high-end workstation/business class notebooks.

Besides, Dell only has outlets in the US and UK so that would mean they're discriminating the rest of the world. The only reason i could think of that they only have outlets in countries where a: the market is large enough and b: they have a manufacturing location. For instance in Europe all the lappys are put together in Limerick, Ireland and i imagine that's also where they are sent back if somethings wrong....so it makes sense to have a UK outlet. The US laptops are done in Mexico if i'm right? And in AUS they are done in Malaysia....mayeb there's an outlet in another nearby country?
