    Hi all,
Is there any way to know what the full specs of a machine selling through the Dell outlet are?
Reason I ask is that Im about to go for a vostro 1400 and some of them are listed as having no graphics card but have the 90W power adapter, the same rated adapter that those with the 8600 cards have.
There seems to be some contradiction as well with some machines being listed as having webcams and another lid with no webcam.
Anyone got any advice on investigating exactly what im getting?

    Thanks in advance,

    B

they say what they have. the 90watt adapter will charge the battery faster regardless if it has a graphics card in it or not.

the webcams are options, not all will have it. if the other person configured it with one, then it will have one. if they didnt, then it wont.

Yeah thats what I originally thought but that means they are not selling any 1400s with graphic cards. I know thats entirely possible but...
And as for the machines being listed with the optional extras if they have them, why do some machines state they have both cam and no cam lids?
If none of the 1400s have graphics cards then there is no saving at all to be had from using the outlet since the prices are crazy for purely what is listed.
Wonder if a phonecall might help..

It all depends whats in stock. If someone returned a fully loaded system after they used it for 30 days it would show up there until someone buys it. I dont understand how some could say they have a webcam and then not say they have a webcam in the same sentence. Could you post a link with this?

and how can you say none of the 1400's have graphics cards in them? i see boatloads with the 8400...

    are you in the US?

Firstly, no Im in the UK and none of the 1400s are listed with any graphics cards at all, even up to the max price (all 80 of them currently listed). I understand the concept of the outlet for selling returned or refurbished stock but the details of each system are pretty confusing at times. Dunno if I can directly link to the pagebut here goes
    http://outlet.dell.com/Emea_Dfo/EuD...94895342783&sortDirection=down#inventoryTable
The only detail I see is the small popup window for each machine, this is where it states the power supply rating and also where it states on some machines that there is a webcam included and there isnt one too.
Its all very odd, dunno if the US site is better.

ok now i get it...yeah that site sucks, the US one is 200x better. it doesnt say anything about whether or not it is intel integrated video or the nvidia card. The whole site looks like its from 1998...i guess the only way would be to call them up or order new. and what the heck IS up with the web cams? first they list the lcd without it then 3 lines later they say it has it...

    UK outlet SUCKS.

Very rarely will you find a decent deal on it, anything worth buying is snapped up very quickly and most of the time (since prices shown are ex vat and delivery) you're better off buying new :).

Yeah just noticed that as a vostro 1500 2G C2D 2G Ram 8600gt disappeared for 460 ex vat. Good price but it barely even showed up before is was gone.
Are there any good outlet type setups in the UK then? Im still sure there must me more in the way of discount vouchers for the UK dell site. Costs a fortune to live here lol.

460 ex VAT....... £540.50 inc VAT then £60 or so for delivery......

How much are these machines brand new? Are you actually saving that much?

I know the ones I was looking at (Lat D430 and D420 a few months ago) were only marginally cheaper at the best and more expensive at the worst.

Just bought a Lat D420 from Ebay - used with 2 years Dell warranty remaining - just over £400. :) Ebay's a bit of a minefield though and current models like the Vostro you might not really save anything on.

well that spec would be close to if not over the 700 mark new. I agree though some just arent worth the effort. I am begining to think i should just bide my time and wait for an offer on the vostros or 1520.
I cant really find any alternatives as of yet, the dedicated graphics is the deciding factor

I just want to give you my opinion.

I just bought a refurb D430 two weeks ago. I got it last week.

I been shopping and shopping and been looking at the Outlet almost every 1/2 an hour. They had a 20% off coupon code.

So I got one with a 100 gig HD(4200 rpm), 2 gig memory, DVD burner and a/g/n wireless and bluetooth for $939 shipped. Got the 3 year warranty on it.

I did see a plastic label stratch. I can just peel it off.

The label say Centrino, but its a Dual Code 2 inside. I can peel off the label.

    It smell new.

    I like it.

Yes, you dont get much description on the outlet site until you actually order. Once you order, then it give you great detail.

I just bought from the outlet (U.S.), and my points may not apply to the way that the UK site operates.

First, if you look at (obsess) over the outlet pricing long enough, you'll get an idea of what it should be for what you want. Some items don't seem to affect the outlet pricing, for whatever reason.

Second, to answer your original question, add the item to your cart, and proceed up to the final submit. With the U.S. version, it will list out every single component. I had previously identified the component code for what I wanted (the most important part, not everything) by using the dell configurator - simple enough to search for the code.

Third, the outlet seems to have a regular addition to their stock late Wednesday evenings - or maybe that only applied to what I was looking for. But for a month straight, every Wednesday, the stock for the model I wanted went straight up.

Yes, even if you are not sure, after you have order, it will email you with greater detail. Then if you dont like what you see, just give Dell a call and it can be cancel right away.
