Trying to make this decision here.

    M1530 over MBP

In truth, the M1530 is probably the smarter route. I've always been a Windows guy. The MBP has some eerie rumored defects (wifi disconnects, lag in keystrokes). I guess the problem I have is the grainy screen issue in the M1530 and the relative unsexiness of the M1530 over the MBP.

Anyone care to sway me once and for all towards the Dell?

I own an older PowerBook, and a new M1530.

I still use the PowerBook more, even for work (which is why I got the 1530).

I've also had weird issues with the wireless networks on the M1530, there's the grainy screen, somewhat 'sketchy' build quality, terrible webcam, no built-in optical audio out, tons of blu-ray issues...

Of course, this is just my experience.

I, honestly, would go with the MBP. This 1530 has been a headache for me ever since I got it. I may be doing another full wipe of the 1530, to possibly put Vista back on (Ubuntu may get to stay, but I haven't decided for sure yet...) I just feel like I've spent more time just trying to get the M1530 to work for me than I have actually using it.

Other people (yourself included) may enjoy tweaking every setting, hunting down drivers, and fine tuning everything as much as possible, but that's not for me. I'd rather have everything just work, so I can concentrate on my actual work.

If you want to do gaming, blu-ray, and all that jazz, the M1530 will probably work fine (with some tweaking...), but for almost anything else, I'd recommend the MBP.
