What is Dell's policy with re-using hard disks when a laptop is returned? Do they thoroughly erase the data?

I've run various hard disk cleaners to hopefully stop any ID theft/fraud taking place, but am hoping Dell are also bound to some kind of laws with regards to cleaning/reusing hard disks?

Overwrite the whole drive with 0s, then again with anything else(random gibberish). After that, whilst it may be possible to retrieve some of the data from your drive, it could not be classed as reliable, and it would certainly not be worth anyones time to try and retrieve your data.

As for an automated product, try DBAN - http://dban.sourceforge.net/
